During the Israel-Hamas conflict, Turkish President Erdogan will visit the US on May 9, marking his first visit during Biden's presidency. It has been reported by Turkish media that Erdogan plans to renew his call for Israel to cease its assaults in Gaza and propose a two-state resolution to the issue.

For the first time towards the end of Biden's administration, Turkish President Tayyip Erdogan is set to visit the United States on May 9, as announced by a Turkish security official on Friday.

Reuters reports that the chief of the Turkish intelligence agency MIT, Ibrahim Kalin, is scheduled to meet with members of the US House of Representatives on Friday. They will discuss Erdogan's proposed visit and other matters concerning both countries, according to an official.

Previously, it was extensively covered by Turkish news platforms that Erdogan was set to visit the US upon the invitation from President Joe Biden. The most recent face-to-face encounter between the two leaders took place last July during a NATO Summit, even though they have remained constantly in touch via phone.

Interestingly, the relationship between the US and Turkey had been tense due to Sweden's attempt to join NATO, which was initially halted by Istanbul. However, the approval of this issue by Turkey restored the relations back to their usual state. Moreover, the meeting becomes even more important considering the ongoing war between Israel and Hamas, and the potential for this conflict to expand across the whole of West Asia.

Reports from Turkish press also suggested that Erdogan would repeat his call for Israel to halt its assaults in Gaza and endorse a two-state resolution to the issue.

Erdogan, on the other hand, has voiced his criticism towards the US for its steadfast backing of Israel in its conflict with Hamas. In February of this year, the Turkish leader blamed the US for the lack of progress in the peace process in the area since the conflict started following an assault on Israel by Hamas on October 7 of the previous year.

Another crucial matter anticipated to be a primary focus of the two leaders' discussions is the selling of F-16s to Turkey, along with the process of updating and modernizing the jets that have been obtained up to this point.
