As the conflict between Israel and Hamas continues, Turkish President Erdogan is set to visit the US on May 9, marking his first visit during Biden's presidency. Reports from Turkish media suggest that Erdogan will once again urge Israel to cease their assaults in Gaza and promote the two-state resolution to the ongoing issue.

For the first time during the end of Biden's term, Turkey's President Tayyip Erdogan is set to visit the United States on May 9, as confirmed by a Turkish security official on Friday.

Reuters reports that Ibrahim Kalin, the chief of Turkey's MIT intelligence agency, is set to have a meeting with members of the US House of Representatives this Friday. The purpose of the meeting is to discuss Erdogan's upcoming visit and other matters concerning both countries, as noted by an official.

Previously, it was widely covered by Turkish news sources that Erdogan was set to visit the US, having received an invitation from President Joe Biden. The most recent face-to-face interaction between these two leaders took place at a NATO Summit in July, although they have maintained regular phone conversations.

By chance, the relationship between the US and Turkey had experienced some tension due to Sweden's attempt to join NATO, which was initially halted by Istanbul. However, things went back to normal once Turkey gave its approval. Additionally, the meeting is important considering the recent war between Israel and Hamas and the potential for the conflict to spread throughout Western Asia.

Reports from Turkish press indicated that Erdogan was expected to repeat his call for Israel to cease its assaults in Gaza and endorse a two-state resolution to the conflict.

Nonetheless, Erdogan has castigated the US for its steadfast backing of Israel in its conflict with Hamas. In February of this year, the Turkish leader blamed the US for the ongoing failure of peace negotiations in the region, which have been unsuccessful since the war erupted following an assault by Hamas on Israel on October 7 of the previous year.

A significant topic anticipated to dominate the discussions between the two leaders could be the trade of F-16s to Turkey and the improvement and modernization of jets that have already been purchased.
