Apple is developing a 20-inch MacBook with a bendable screen, planning to begin large-scale production in 2027
Contrary to earlier speculation about iPhones or iPads, Apple might be concentrating on introducing a foldable device in the form of a 20-inch MacBook. The company's first gadget with a flexible screen might be revealed in 2027.
Famous Apple expert Ming-Chi Kuo has provided insights into Apple's possible strategy to launch an innovative 20-inch MacBook with a collapsible screen in the upcoming three years.
Kuo, recognized for his precise forecasts, disclosed in a recent X post that Apple's development plans encompass the 20.3-inch MacBook, predicted to start mass production in 2027. Nevertheless, particular information about the gadget is still kept secret.
Kuo's revelation is consistent with whispers from other insiders in the industry, such as display industry analyst Ross Young and the Korean site The Elec, who have also suggested the potential for a 20-inch MacBook.
Just to give you some background, the biggest laptop that Apple currently has on the market is the 16-inch MacBook Pro. They used to have a 17-inch MacBook Pro, but it was discontinued in 2012.
Even though Kuo provided a rough estimate of the screen size, he refrained from sharing more specific details about the design of the rumored foldable MacBook.
Kuo emphasized the distinctiveness of the 20-inch MacBook in Apple's range of foldable devices, suggesting a separate development path. He hinted that foldable versions of the iPhone or iPad are not expected to be released anytime soon.
Rumors regarding a collapsible MacBook aren't a recent development. In 2022, Ross Young, an analyst from Display Supply Chain Consultants (DSCC), and Mark Gurman from Bloomberg hinted about Apple potentially dabbling in foldable laptops, particularly pointing out a gadget with a 20-inch screen.
Adding to the mystery, The Information earlier this year revealed that Apple has been testing foldable iPhone models since 2018. These models come in two unique designs, one similar to a conventional smartphone and the other one looking like an iPad, but with the added feature of being foldable.
Kuo's latest remarks imply that Apple is primarily concentrating on the development of foldable technology for the MacBook. This could mean that foldable iPhones or iPads might not be on the immediate agenda.
Apple continues to be secretive about its plans for foldable products, while its main rivals, Samsung and Google, have already made considerable progress in this area.
Samsung has released numerous versions of its flip and book-like folding phones, while Google debuted the Pixel Fold last year, with speculation swirling about a second version currently under development.
