Apple is developing a 20-inch MacBook with a foldable screen, planning to begin large-scale production in 2027

Instead of focusing on creating foldable iPhones or iPads as previous speculations suggested, Apple seems to be concentrating their resources on a foldable 20-inch MacBook. The company's first gadget featuring a foldable screen might be introduced in 2027.

Famous Apple expert Ming-Chi Kuo has provided insight into Apple's possible intention to launch an innovative 20-inch MacBook with a foldable display in the next three years.

Kuo, who is recognized for his precise forecasts, disclosed in a recent X post that Apple's development plan includes a 20.3-inch MacBook, expected to start mass production in 2027. Nonetheless, concrete details about the gadget are still kept confidential.

Kuo's revelation is in line with whispers from other experts in the industry, such as display industry analyst Ross Young and Korean website The Elec, who have also suggested that a 20-inch MacBook could be a possibility.

Just to give some background, the biggest laptop that Apple currently offers is the 16-inch MacBook Pro, as the 17-inch MacBook Pro model was discontinued in 2012.

While Kuo did provide a rough estimate of the screen size, he did not reveal more specific information about the alleged foldable MacBook's design.

Kuo emphasized the individuality of the 20-inch MacBook in Apple's range of foldable devices, proposing a separate development path. This implies that foldable iPhone or iPad models are not expected in the near future.

Rumors regarding a foldable MacBook aren't fresh news. In 2022, Ross Young, an analyst at Display Supply Chain Consultants (DSCC), and Mark Gurman from Bloomberg, hinted at Apple's investigation into foldable laptops, specifically citing a gadget equipped with a 20-inch screen.

The intrigue deepens as The Information revealed earlier this year that Apple has been testing foldable iPhone models since 2018. These prototypes come in two unique designs, one looking like a typical smartphone and the other similar to an iPad but with the ability to fold.

Kuo's latest remarks imply that Apple's attention to foldable technology is primarily centered on the extensive MacBook, possibly signaling that foldable iPhones or iPads might not be forthcoming in the near future.

Apple continues to keep its plans for foldable products under wraps, however, its main competitors, Samsung and Google, have already made considerable progress in this area.

Samsung has released several versions of its flip and book-like folding phones, while Google unveiled the Pixel Fold last year, with speculations about a second-generation model being under development.
