SpaceX is said to be creating numerous espionage satellites for the US administration
It seems that SpaceX has been given the task to design and produce a sizable cluster of espionage satellites for the US Department of Defense's National Reconnaissance Office. Known as Starshield, these satellites will work collectively in a cluster to observe terrestrial objectives.
According to a Reuters report, SpaceX has allegedly received a contract from the US Department of Defense's National Reconnaissance Office, under the leadership of President Joe Biden, in a crucial move for the US' national security initiatives. The contract involves the design and production of a large network of surveillance satellites that will orbit at a low altitude.
The network called Starshield is anticipated to dramatically transform the US's intelligence collection abilities. It will function as a synchronised group to keep an eye on ground targets with unparalleled accuracy.
The Reuters report indicates that SpaceX's participation in this bold initiative is based on previous revelations by The Wall Street Journal. The Journal had exposed a contract worth $1.8 billion, signed in 2021, between SpaceX and a secret government entity.
Starshield intends to set up an extensive monitoring system using numerous miniature imaging satellites. These satellites will work together with relay satellites to ensure uninterrupted data exchange.
The anticipated outcome is a constant flow of high-quality pictures capturing all parts of the world, significantly improving the US's intelligence collection abilities to never-before-seen levels.
An informant told Reuters about the network's ability to make hiding practically unfeasible.
While neither SpaceX nor the NRO have publicly acknowledged the company's involvement in the project, a representative from the NRO informed Reuters about the agency's dedication to creating a superior intelligence, surveillance, and reconnaissance system in space.
The most recent agreement enhances SpaceX's expanding range of national security space projects. Current news suggests that SpaceX has landed a $70 million contract with the Space Force for providing satellite communications as part of the Starshield program.
It's important to point out that Elon Musk, the creator of SpaceX, has clearly outlined Starshield as a separate enterprise from the Starlink constellation, which is primarily geared towards civilian use. He stresses that Starshield is solely committed to meeting government and national security goals.
