SpaceX 'creating' numerous espionage satellites for US administration
It seems that SpaceX has been granted the task to design and produce a vast array of espionage satellites for the US Department of Defense’s National Reconnaissance Office. Named Starshield, these satellites will function as a synchronized group to observe terrestrial targets.
According to a Reuters report, SpaceX has allegedly secured a contract from the National Reconnaissance Office (NRO) of the US Department of Defense, led by President Joe Biden. This significant move for the country's national security will involve SpaceX developing and producing a large network of surveillance satellites in low orbit.
The network, known as Starshield, is anticipated to drastically transform the US's data collection abilities. It functions as a synchronized cluster, surveying terrestrial objectives with unparalleled accuracy.
The Reuters article reveals that SpaceX's participation in this bold initiative is based on prior revelations by The Wall Street Journal. The Journal had previously exposed a $1.8 billion deal, inked in 2021, between SpaceX and a confidential government department.
Starshield intends to create an extensive observation system using numerous small imaging satellites. These satellites will operate in coordination with relay satellites for uninterrupted data transfer.
The anticipated outcome is a constant flow of high-quality images that encompass every part of the world, significantly improving the intelligence collection abilities of the United States to never-before-seen extents.
An individual who spoke to Reuters highlighted the capacity of this system to make hiding practically unfeasible.
While both SpaceX and the NRO have not formally acknowledged their involvement in the project, an NRO representative expressed to Reuters that the agency is dedicated to creating an unrivaled intelligence, surveillance, and reconnaissance system in space.
The most recent agreement enhances SpaceX's expanding involvement in national security space projects. It was recently reported that SpaceX obtained a $70 million contract with the Space Force to provide satellite communications for the Starshield program.
It's important to highlight that Elon Musk, the creator of SpaceX, has clearly defined Starshield as a separate project from the civilian-oriented Starlink constellation, underlining its sole commitment towards governmental and national security goals.
