Samsung granted patent for triple-foldable, rollable smartphone screens, suggesting new foldable models

Samsung appears to be preparing to launch two different types of foldable smartphones, based on their most recent patents. The company recently received a patent for a unique triple-foldable display and a compact rollable smartphone screen.

The famous South Korean technology company, Samsung, has reached an important achievement by securing patents for its advanced tri-fold and rollable display technologies from the US Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO). This accomplishment highlights Samsung's ongoing commitment to innovation in the field of flexible display technology.

Samsung's tri-fold display technology, unveiled at CES 2022, has received a patent from the USPTO. This is a departure from typical foldable phones that fold like a book, such as the Galaxy Z Fold 5 or the OnePlus Open. Samsung's patented tri-fold display presents a unique design. It features a display module with a minimum of one foldable area, making it possible to extend the screen across three panels at once. This ingenious setup provides users with a smooth and extensive viewing experience, similar to the Flex S technology previously demonstrated by Samsung.

Samsung has not only been granted a patent for their three-fold screen but also for their rollable screen technology. The patent outlines a gadget that includes a rollable screen which can be pulled back into its casing when the gadget is shut and expanded when it's open. The casing is described as being able to change shape in two conditions – shut and open – which allows the smooth unfolding of the screen panels using hinges.

These patents highlight Samsung's dedication to advancing display technology. However, the firm has not revealed any immediate intentions to incorporate these breakthroughs into consumer electronics. It's possible that Samsung is concentrating on fine-tuning these technologies to address common issues related to performance and durability in foldable devices prior to their market launch.

Samsung's constant striving for innovation in pliable screen technology highlights its role as a pioneer in the sector. As the corporation keeps pushing the boundaries of these revolutionary technologies, customers can look forward to potential future gadgets that provide improved adaptability and functionality, reshaping the consumer electronics scene.
