In the realm of gaming laptops, MSI often sets itself apart from the rest. The pair of MSI Titan GT77s we examined in the last two years easily take the crown as the top gaming laptops, regardless of cost. But similar to other producers, MSI also finds it challenging to create a comprehensive gaming laptop that is also easily transportable. However, this isn't an issue if you consider their Stealth series.

The MSI Stealth 14 Studio A13V, as implied by its name, isn't solely designed for intense gamers, but also for dedicated content creators who demand exceptional performance. The Stealth 14 Studio is an attractive, efficient laptop. Its sleek, fashionable design coupled with its robust power makes it suitable for both home and office use. Additionally, it's excellent for producing content like videos and artwork, and also excels at gaming.

The combination of Intel Core i7 13700H and NVIDIA’s RTX 4060 laptop GPU results in a powerhouse of performance that far exceeds its competitors. Additionally, it features a sophisticated QHD+ IPS display with a refresh rate of 240Hz.

In conclusion, the MSI Stealth 14 Studio, despite being a gaming laptop, does share some common issues found in most high-end portable devices. But does this affect its appeal as a high-performing powerhouse? Let's discover.

Review of MSI Stealth 14 Studio A13V: Structure and AppearanceThe MSI Stealth 14 Studio adopts a basic design, which I consider to be quite appealing. It's essentially a gaming laptop with a stripped-down look that I find very attractive. I, for one, am not particularly fond of excessive RGB lighting on my laptop. If your taste aligns with mine, you'll likely appreciate the subtle design of the MSI Stealth 14 Studio.

The MSI Stealth 14 Studio boasts a sophisticated look, highlighted by a white cover embossed with the iconic MSI dragon emblem on a magnesium-aluminium alloy frame. The underside of the laptop maintains the white theme, but the inside contrasts with a semi-glossy black finish. Upon lifting the cover, the black, Chiclet-style keys are noticeable, featuring a white typeface and individual key RGB illumination.

The layout and RGB configuration don't loudly proclaim "gaming," allowing you to utilize it in work environments without drawing unnecessary attention. However, there are still subtle elements of RGB lighting present, but MSI has successfully maintained a harmonious equilibrium.

At the rear of the laptop, where the screen is attached, there's a completely black grill that serves the purpose of cooling and incorporates RGB lighting, distinguishing it as a Stealth 14. You'll also observe mild pink and blue RGB shades at the back edges. MSI refers to these as the Afterburner Lighting, incorporated into the back grill. The grill additionally displays the word "Stealth," illuminated by the RGB lights. Although it may seem ironic, it's quite a clever design element that signifies, indeed, this is a gaming device.

In terms of construction, the Stealth 14 Studio is incredibly sturdy. With dimensions of 12.4 x 9.69 x 0.75 inches and a weight of approximately 1.7 kg, the Stealth 14 Studio is small and light, a feature made possible by its magnesium-aluminium alloy frame.

The device's metallic structure lends it a lightweight nature, making it easy to transport in a laptop case without feeling bulky. Its stylish appearance with a contrasting outside and inside design draws eyes, whether you're operating in a coffee shop or while traveling.

The Stealth 14 provides a decent array of ports and I/O that should satisfy the needs of many users. On its right side, it features a 3.5mm combined audio jack, a USB Type-A port, and a Thunderbolt 4 port. Conversely, on the left side, it is equipped with a USB Type-C port, an HDMI 2.1 port, and an AC power port. It also has a few air vents on both sides to ensure proper ventilation. However, it is worth noting that it lacks a card slot or a MicroSD Card slot, which might be a downside for gamers and particularly for content creators.

The MSI Stealth 14 Studio A13V review focuses on its keyboard and trackpad. The computer's design is sleek, which naturally results in a smaller keyboard. Initially, the keyboard's RGB lighting is set to Disco Mode, which could be a bit too flamboyant for some users. Fortunately, you can use the SteelSeries GG application that comes with the computer to customize the RGB backlighting for each key. This software makes the process of creating and managing individual profiles quite straightforward, allowing you to easily change the atmosphere of your gaming and streaming setup.

Regarding the keyboard, the keys are adequately large and uniformly arranged, providing a decently pleasing response due to the quick key switches. It might require a bit of adjustment initially, but you'll find typing quite pleasurable once you become accustomed to it. Regrettably, there is some evident flex in the keyboard, diminishing the high-end vibe of the laptop. Speaking of which, the standard color setting of the RGB lighting doesn't appear very sophisticated and instead seems somewhat tacky and inexpensive. Moreover, MSI could have opted for somewhat brighter RGB lights for the keys, with less intense colors.

Despite being intended for gaming, the MSI Stealth 14 Studio A13V stands out with its generously large touchpad. Situated on the left for ease of typing, this design provides additional room on the right. The touchpad ensures exact tracking and sensitivity, ensuring it's simple and precise to operate. Though it's appropriate for day-to-day activities, those who game might choose to use an external mouse to alleviate any small touchpad issues.

Review of MSI Stealth 14 Studio A13V: Analysis of Webcam and Speakers: The performance of the webcam on the MSI Stealth 14 Studio is just satisfactory. It doesn't quite match up to the standard of other Windows laptops in the same price bracket, primarily due to its 720p/30FPS webcam. The visual output is not as impressive as one would expect from a laptop of this cost. The image quality is compromised even in bright light conditions. For video conferencing purposes, it would be passable, given that the lighting is above average.

On the plus side, it comes with a privacy cover, providing assurance against unintentional turn-ons during video chats. The microphone configuration, on the other hand, provides crisp and evenly distributed sound.

When it comes to sound, the four-speaker system fine-tuned by Dynaudio greatly improves the overall sound quality. The MSI Stealth 14 Studio is equipped with SteelSeries' Nahimic audio software, which offers features comparable to those of DTS-X audio and Dolby Atmos. Users have the liberty to tweak spatial audio and presets according to their likes, with choices such as Music, Movie, Communication, and Gaming presets. The Smart Profile function auto-adjusts the sound for particular tasks, offering more personalized settings.

The final outcome is that the speakers generate a full-bodied sound with substantial depth, robust bass, and acceptable treble, offering a well-rounded performance. They can reach high volumes without any distortion, effortlessly permeating a room without the necessity to crank up the volume to its maximum.

Our evaluation of the MSI Stealth 14 Studio A13V reveals that its 14-inch screen appears bigger than it genuinely is due to its 16:10 aspect ratio. The display possesses a clear, QHD+ resolution of 2560X1600. Even though it doesn't quite match the clarity of 4K panels found in top-tier workstation laptops, it maintains satisfactory sharpness for mobile tasks and static media activities, particularly gaming.

When it comes to gaming, the standout feature of the display is its remarkable 240Hz refresh rate. Few gaming laptops available currently can boast such superior refresh rates. This high refresh rate guarantees that the visuals on the MSI Stealth 14 Studio are seamless, free from tearing or any other disturbances. Honestly, playing a quick game, such as Valorant, is incredibly smooth and offers an amazing experience.

The fact that this is an IPS display means that it lacks the deep blacks and intense colours. However, the colours are still decent enough to enjoy your top OTT show. This is possible due to the display's complete coverage of the DCI-P3 colour range, guaranteeing precise and vibrant colours throughout. Even though we'd prefer if it supported HDR or Dolby Vision, the display's precision and clarity are praiseworthy.

The peak brightness of nearly 450 nits ensures outstanding visibility inside. In outdoor conditions too, the screen stays clearly visible with the brightness turned up to the maximum, saving me from having to squint in bright sunlight.

The visibility from varied perspectives is impressive as the colors typically maintain their vividness even when viewed from unusual angles. The laptop also features MSI True Color, a feature that enables users to adjust and balance the laptop's display to their liking. It offers around seven modes to select, with extra settings for more detailed customization.

The screen has a lot of promise, but it requires precise adjustments for optimal use. Once configured properly, both media viewing and gaming become highly pleasurable activities. Despite its impressive accuracy and vibrancy, suitable for most professional content editing tasks, it's still essential to properly set up and calibrate the display for tasks like color grading videos and color correcting photos.

Review of MSI Stealth 14 Studio A13V: Power and Efficiency

The MSI Stealth 14 Studio A13V comes loaded with a 13th Gen Intel Core i7-13700H Processor that can ramp up to 5 GHz. It boasts six performance cores and eight efficiency cores, totaling 14 cores along with a 24M Cache. Coupled with 16GB DDR5 RAM operating in a dual-channel setup at 5200 MT/s, this laptop offers remarkable performance.

The NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4060 Laptop GPU, which runs at 2250Mhz and comes with 8GB of GDDR6 Memory and a 128-bit bus, manages the graphics. This arrangement guarantees that the Stealth 14 Studio outperforms, especially when considering its cost.

The i7-13700H processor shines in numerous artificial benchmarks, achieving an equilibrium between high-intensity tasks and regular apps, with its single-threaded performances standing out due to its top boost clock speed of 5GHz.

Benchmark scores do provide some understanding, but the actual usage gives a more accurate image. When it comes to gaming, the Stealth 14 Studio does remarkably well, providing one of the top experiences in its cost bracket. The tests were done in Discrete Graphics Mode, with the power and performance settings at their peak. The games operated seamlessly at a resolution of 1920×1200 and the maximum available settings, consistently giving high-quality frame rates without any noticeable lags or dramatic decreases.

We carried out various gaming assessments using games such as Forza Horizon 5, GTA 5, Control, F1 2022, Shadow of the Tomb Raider, Valorant, and Counter-Strike: Global Offensive. The outcomes were in alignment with our artificial benchmarks. The tests were done in performance mode and the laptop was connected to power.

In the game Shadow of The Tomb Raider, we managed to hit an average frame rate of 133. Forza Horizon 5 operated at an average frame rate of 139. Grand Theft Auto 5 consistently held an average frame rate of 160. In F1 2022, we recorded an average frame rate of 122. Swift multiplayer games like CS: GO and Valorant achieved an average frame rate of 315 and 280 respectively.

The Stealth 14 Studio's hardware capabilities are truly remarkable, as evidenced by these impressive figures. Users can attain even greater frame rates by making minor adjustments to settings, like choosing high over ultra graphics or turning off antialiasing, without significantly sacrificing visual quality.

Regarding how the MSI Stealth 14 Studio handles heat dissipation, it performs on par with any premium gaming laptop that houses powerful components. The keyboard, particularly near its upper part, tends to heat up during intense gaming sessions and benchmarking. However, the Stealth 14 Studio incorporates a smart cooling mechanism.

On each side of the frame, there are two exhaust openings, and another one is situated at the rear, beyond the joint. For airflow intake, there's a substantial opening at the laptop's base. Additionally, the MSI Stealth 14 Studio A13V employs a Vapor Chamber that greatly enhances the process of heat dispersion.

Additionally, the MSI Centre gives you the flexibility to select various performance levels and fan speeds. In our synthetic and gaming tests, we maximized the fan speed with the Cooler Boost mode, maintaining the temperatures within the expected range for the Intel i7 13700H & RTX 4060 package. The fans can become noisy, but using headphones should mitigate this problem.

Overall, the Stealth 14 Studio is a powerhouse of a device and performs as such. It possesses significant power and provides a rather remarkable performance bundle, particularly when you take into account the size of the laptop.

Review of MSI Stealth 14 Studio A13V: Battery Performance

The MSI Stealth 14 Studio A13V is equipped with a robust 72W 4-cell battery and a substantial 240W charging adapter. Despite being a gaming laptop with a dedicated GPU and an exceptionally fast CPU, it offers reasonable battery longevity. This is primarily due to its ability to manage GPU utilization and alternate between Intel's integrated GPU and the RTX 4060, granted you permit it. However, if you operate it solely on the discrete graphics, the battery duration noticeably decreases.

On a typical workday involving extensive writing, photo alterations, heavy internet surfing, and considerable use of YouTube and Netflix, the device lasted about 4-5 hours with the screen brightness set at roughly 60 per cent, which is fairly satisfactory. We conducted the same trials and usage patterns, this time exclusively using the discrete graphics, and observed that the battery scarcely lasted longer than 3 hours.

Fortunately, the package comes with a 240W charger, which ensures the device remains powered at all times. Nonetheless, remember that if the laptop's battery is completely drained, it will take the charger considerably more than an hour to fully recharge it.

Review Summary of MSI Stealth 14 Studio A13V: This model masterfully combines efficiency, mobility, and productivity.

Despite its high performance in multiple aspects, there are a few remarkable exclusions. It would have been truly appreciated if there was improved HDR support and an enhanced webcam. Also, the absence of an SD card slot is quite odd for a laptop designed for content creators who depend on these elements. Nonetheless, the laptop's striking performance makes up for most of these deficiencies.

For those who enjoy gaming and creating content while travelling, the MSI Stealth 14 Studio A13V, in the setup we evaluated, proved to be more than adequate. We didn't experience any frame drops, screen tearing, or problems when navigating through 4K timelines on video tasks. During our evaluation, we didn't find ourselves wishing for additional processing power.

The standout feature of this laptop is its remarkable efficiency packed into a genuinely compact size. While enhancements in battery longevity and heat control would be advantageous, it's hard to ignore the immense capabilities of the Intel i7 13700H CPU and NVIDIA RTX 4060 GPU.

Indeed, there might be alternatives that are marginally superior and more cost-effective, particularly if you're open to a model bigger than the 14-inch display. But, if you're in the market for a device that provides a 14-inch screen with a 240Hz refresh rate at a resolution exceeding 1080P, and that delivers all the performance you could ever require, then the MSI Stealth 14 Studio A13V should be your top choice.
