SpaceX tasked to create numerous espionage satellites for US administration

It seems that SpaceX has been chosen to design and produce a significant array of espionage satellites for the National Reconnaissance Office of the US Department of Defense. Named Starshield, these satellites will function as a unified group to keep an eye on terrestrial targets.

According to a Reuters report, SpaceX has won a contract from the National Reconnaissance Office (NRO), a part of the US Department of Defense, overseen by President Joe Biden. This marks an essential step for US national security since SpaceX will be responsible for creating and building a large network of surveillance satellites that will orbit at a low altitude.

The network named Starshield is anticipated to drastically transform the US intelligence collection ability. It will work as a unified group to observe ground objectives with unparalleled accuracy.

The Reuters article states that SpaceX's participation in this bold venture expands on previous revelations by The Wall Street Journal. The Journal had previously exposed a contract worth $1.8 billion, signed in 2021, between SpaceX and a confidential government entity.

Starshield is working towards creating a robust surveillance system that uses numerous small imaging satellites. These satellites work together with relay satellites to ensure uninterrupted data transmission.

The anticipated outcome is a steady flow of high-quality images covering all parts of the world, significantly improving the United States' ability to gather intelligence in ways never seen before.

A person who spoke to Reuters emphasized the capability of this network to make hiding virtually unachievable.

Even though SpaceX and the NRO have not formally acknowledged their participation in the project, a representative from the NRO told Reuters about the agency's dedication to creating an unmatched intelligence, surveillance, and reconnaissance system in space.

This new agreement further expands SpaceX's increasing involvement in national security space projects. Recent news shows that SpaceX landed a $70 million contract with the Space Force to provide satellite communication services as a part of the Starshield program.

It's important to mention that Elon Musk, the founder of SpaceX, has clearly defined Starshield as a separate project from the civilian-centered Starlink constellation. He specifically points out its sole commitment to governmental and national security goals.
