OpenAI's Sora has the ability to create convincing naked videos, with developers urgently working on a solution

OpenAI's video creation tool, Sora, has the potential to produce explicit videos of individuals when instructed, as stated by OpenAI's CTO, Mira Murati. The AI company is presently developing a corrective measure to address this issue prior to its release.

OpenAI appears to be heading quickly into a realm of potential trouble, possibly leading to a slew of legal issues and probes. OpenAI has not dismissed the possibility that its soon-to-be-released Sora video generator could produce explicit videos, which could spell trouble for the firm.

In a comprehensive discussion with the Wall Street Journal concerning the upcoming tool, OpenAI's Chief Technology Officer, Mira Murati indicated that the firm is still grappling with the issue of nudity.

"Uncertain," Murati responded to the WSJ's journalists regarding the topic of nudity. "It's conceivable that there are unique circumstances where artists may desire greater authority over that. At present, we're collaborating with artists and creators from various domains to understand what's beneficial, and how much adaptability the tool should offer."

The response was unexpectedly forthright and might have been missed amidst the notorious YouTube training data incident in the discussion. However, there is concern among some specialists that if Sora permits "artistic" nudity, it could potentially unleash a torrent of adult content.

OpenAI faces a tough choice in light of the fact that the majority of the demand for AI-generated video, around 90%, is likely to be for adult content, according to Daniel Colson, the founder and executive director of the AI Policy Institute (AIPI), as he expressed to Quartz. This situation could lead to a problematic scenario where, if mainstream companies producing these models don't offer that service, it could drive a significant push for the black market to step in and cater to this demand.

Considering the simplicity of manipulating AI models to produce outcomes that breach their safeguards, it's highly likely that individuals will attempt to provoke Sora into creating explicit content. This indeed places the leading AI company in a predicament where it's in trouble whether it complies or not.

Surveys show that the public doesn't just worry about AI technology being used to create disturbing deepfake porn, like the inappropriate images of Taylor Swift that surfaced earlier this year. In addition, 86% of respondents think that the firms responsible for these readily-abused tools must be held responsible for their inadequate safety measures.

"Colson further emphasized that this underlines the public's earnest consideration of this technology. People perceive it as influential. They have witnessed how tech firms implement these patterns, algorithms, and technologies, which have profoundly reshaped society."

Why doesn't OpenAI grasp the prominent issues that the majority of people seem to comprehend?
