'Elon Musk is irrational, hallucinating': OpenAI refutes previous investor's legal action
OpenAI, while defending itself against Elon Musk's lawsuit, argued that it is founded on a fabricated, complex and frequently irrational set of facts. The company also suggested in the legal documents that Musk could potentially use the lawsuit to gain access to the company's confidential records and technology prior to the trial.
OpenAI has vehemently denied Elon Musk's accusations in a legal document, stating that his assertions are based on intricate and frequently unclear facts. The company's response constitutes its inaugural legal rebuttal to Musk's lawsuit filed in February, as stated by CEO Sam Altman and President Greg Brockman.
Musk filed a lawsuit against OpenAI, alleging that the company strayed from its objective of creating responsible artificial intelligence, and was largely swayed by its major investor, Microsoft Corporation. OpenAI, in response, clarified in its legal document that they didn't violate any contract with Musk as there was no initial contract or any kind of agreement with him in the first place.
The submission also dismissed Musk's assertions made in an employee communication and a recent blog article. OpenAI described Musk's proposed solution as unusual and grounded in a made-up agreement. The firm maintained that Musk's intention was to force OpenAI to restructure and share its technology based on his speculative conditions.
The dispute between Musk and OpenAI has a history that extends beyond the current legal battle, primarily centered on differences in opinion about the company's monetization plan and its association with Microsoft. Musk, who was originally part of the founding team of OpenAI, has expressed dissatisfaction with the course the company has taken.
In a blog post, OpenAI disclosed that Musk had earlier proposed the idea of merging the firm with his car company, Tesla Inc. The post also implied that Musk was in favor of OpenAI functioning as a profit-making business, but only under his supervision. OpenAI's legal department blamed Musk of attempting to exploit the firm's tech advancements for his personal gain.
The continuing conflict between Musk and OpenAI brings about crucial concerns regarding AI security and availability, reaching further than just the tech sector. Vinod Khosla, a billionaire entrepreneur and investor in OpenAI, has given his opinion, implying that Musk's legal action won't contribute to the creation of artificial general intelligence by lawful methods.
OpenAI disclosed in the documentation that they worry Musk may leverage the legal action to acquire the firm's confidential files and technology during the pretrial investigation. To safeguard themselves, the company appealed to the court to label the case as "complex," given its complicated technical aspects and the possible inclusion of numerous parties and allegations.
