Since August 2021, Apple's network in India has provided jobs to over 150,000 individuals, making it the leading source of blue-collar employment in the country. Additionally, approximately 300,000 other jobs have been indirectly created due to Apple's activities in India.

Apple is proving to be vital for job generation in India, particularly in the realm of blue-collar employment. The launch of the production-linked incentive (PLI) program for mobile phones in August 2021 has seen Apple's operations in India substantially aiding in the creation of employment opportunities, as reported by The Economic Times.

The study shows that more than 150,000 people have secured jobs directly through Apple's network, making the technological powerhouse the top provider of blue-collar jobs in India. A large portion of these workers are young individuals entering the job market for the first time, typically aged from 19 to 24.

The report further emphasizes that approximately 300,000 extra jobs have been indirectly created due to Apple's activities in India. Presently, the firm directly employs about 3,000 individuals, and its iOS app development is responsible for supporting more than 1 million jobs in different industries.

The reason for Apple's emphasis on India, which is the globe's second-biggest smartphone market, is due to political conflicts and market difficulties in the US and China. Apple has been enhancing its local production operations since it started making iPhones in India in 2017 under the PLI scheme.

The company has collaborated with suppliers such as Foxconn, Wistron, and Pegatron to step up the assembly of the newest iPhone models and the manufacture of diverse components in India. Such initiatives have resulted in the generation of more than 77,000 direct employment opportunities within these contracted manufacturing companies.

Moreover, Apple's network of suppliers in India has seen fast-paced expansion, leading to more than 70,000 fresh direct employment opportunities. Tata Electronics, Salcomp Technologies, Foxlink, and Sunwoda have been instrumental in job generation among Apple's suppliers.

Furthermore, firms like Avary Technologies, CCL Industries, and Flex have been instrumental in generating employment opportunities within the ecosystem.

Apple recently initiated a women's health education program to bolster the growing workforce and encourage diversity. This move, part of their $50-million Supplier Employee Development Fund, is designed to both empower and inform employees within Apple's supply chain. Furthermore, it's anticipated to boost India's economic development and progress.

As Apple continues to invest and grow in India, the nation's position in the worldwide tech scene is anticipated to become more robust. This is likely to lead to increased job opportunities and economic growth.
