Meta files a lawsuit against its ex-VP of Indian descent for document theft, alleging him of business spying
Meta is leveling accusations against its former Vice President of Infrastructure, Dipinder Singh Khurana, for pilfering private and sensitive papers prior to his departure to a clandestine AI cloud computing startup. Khurana had a 12-year tenure at Meta.
Meta, Facebook's parent company, has started legal proceedings against its ex-Vice President of Infrastructure, Dipinder Singh Khurana, who also goes by T S Khurana. The lawsuit accuses Khurana of taking classified documents before he went to work for a clandestine AI cloud computing start-up.
According to a Bloomberg article, a case was lodged against Khurana in a California state court on February 29. The lawsuit alleges that Khurana violated his agreement and behaved dishonestly.
The legal claim states that Khurana, an employee at Meta for 12 years, transferred a set of private, critical, and classified documents related to Meta's functioning and staff to his personal Google Drive and Dropbox accounts right before leaving the company. Allegedly, these documents contain information about staff salaries and performance, along with undisclosed business contracts.
Meta maintains that a minimum of eight staff members, who were referenced in the documents Khurana uploaded, later departed the firm to become a part of Khurana's new venture. The legal action describes Khurana's behavior during his exit from Meta and the subsequent events as a total lack of respect for his contractual and legal obligations.
A representative from Meta underscored in a press release the company's dedication to protecting its classified information. The representative emphasized that Meta treats any severe misconduct with the utmost seriousness and will persist in securing its business and employee data.
This legal case is a component of a larger pattern of leading technology corporations pursuing lawsuits to safeguard their proprietary information. Previously this month, an engineer from Google faced charges for supposedly pilfering hundreds of secret documents filled with AI proprietary knowledge from the firm.
The lawsuit initiated by Meta highlights the intense rivalry and substantial risks in the tech industry, especially in the fields of AI and cloud computing. Considering Meta's CEO, Mark Zuckerberg's active participation in the lawsuit, it is anticipated that as the case moves forward in the judiciary, it will attract a lot of attention.
The result of this legal conflict could greatly affect both Meta and Khurana's fresh venture, underlining the significance of protecting intellectual property and respecting contract agreements in the highly competitive tech industry environment.
