Meta files a lawsuit against its former VP of Indian descent for document theft, alleging him of corporate spying

Meta has laid charges against its ex-Vice President of Infrastructure, Dipinder Singh Khurana, asserting that he pilfered private and critical papers prior to his departure to a clandestine AI cloud computing startup. Khurana was a part of Meta for 12 years.

Meta, Facebook's parent company, has launched a lawsuit against its ex-Vice President of Infrastructure, Dipinder Singh Khurana, also known as T S Khurana. The lawsuit accuses him of unlawfully taking private documents before he began working for an enigmatic AI cloud computing startup.

According to a Bloomberg article, a legal action was initiated on February 29 in a California jurisdictional court, alleging Khurana of violating his agreement and exhibiting unfaithful behaviour.

The legal action claims that Khurana, a 12-year veteran of Meta, transferred a set of exclusive and confidential files related to Meta's activities and staff to his personal Google Drive and Dropbox accounts right before he left the company. Allegedly, these files contain information regarding employee salaries and performance, along with undisclosed company contracts.

Meta claims that a minimum of eight staff members referenced in the documents uploaded by Khurana subsequently departed from the company to join Khurana's new venture. The legal action taken against Khurana depicts his conduct during his exit from Meta and thereafter as demonstrating utter disrespect for his contract and legal duties.

A representative from Meta stressed in a press release the company's dedication to preserving its proprietary information. They underlined that Meta considers such grave misconduct to be of utmost importance, and will persist in safeguarding its commercial and employee data.

This litigation belongs to a larger pattern of prominent technology corporations resorting to law to safeguard their intellectual assets. Just recently, an engineer from Google came under legal scrutiny for supposedly pilfering numerous classified documents packed with AI proprietary knowledge from the firm.

Meta's initiation of legal action has highlighted the intense rivalry and elevated risks within the tech industry, especially in areas like AI and cloud computing. The active participation of Meta's CEO, Mark Zuckerberg, in this legal dispute is likely to attract considerable interest as the case moves forward in the judicial system.

The result of this legal conflict may greatly impact both Meta and Khurana's new enterprise, underscoring the need to protect intellectual property and fulfill contract terms in the highly competitive tech industry.
