2024 Rising Bharat Summit: Indian-built Semicon to be launched by December 2024, announces IT Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw

The first semiconductor manufactured in India will be available by December 2024, as announced today by the Union IT Minister, Ashwini Vaishnaw, at the News18 Rising Bharat Summit 2024. He also shared the proximity of this project to PM Modi's vision of a Developed India.

Numerous semiconductor producers are establishing operations and funding ventures in India. The country's consumers can expect to see the first locally-produced semiconductor chip as soon as December 2024, according to the Indian Union IT Minister, Ashwini Vaishnaw.

Take note of this date – December 2024. This is when the market will witness the debut of the first semiconductor manufactured in India.

At the Rising Bharat Summit 2024 hosted by News18, Union IT Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw discussed topics such as Digital India and India's aspirations for semiconductor production. He also addressed the question of when India will be able to design and manufacture its own semiconductors on a global scale.

India, as a country, has previously established numerous local semiconductor production facilities. However, there is a need for these facilities to expand further to allow India to have its own semiconductor industry.

Since 1962, India has been endeavoring to set up a semiconductor industry. However, their efforts were unsuccessful due to a lack of determination and proper conviction, according to Minister Vaishnaw. He further stated that it was PM Modi who introduced the necessary conviction and determination.

The production of electronics is a fundamental aspect of Viksit Bharat, with India Semicon being a crucial component. "Whether it's your televisions or fridges, power electronics or telecom equipment, defense technology electronics or automotive electronics, semiconductors are the backbone of them all."

When it comes to the existing government's stance on semiconductors, it's a pet project of Prime Minister Modi. The commitment and belief the Prime Minister holds for this initiative is unmatched. No previous Prime Minister has ever had such a perspective.

The significance of India Semicon to Prime Minister Modi's concept of a developed India was articulated by Minister Vaishnaw, who provided several instances of his approach to semiconductor-related meetings.

Every time we requested a half to three-quarter hour discussion with the Prime Minister regarding semiconductors, he would usually spend more than triple that time in those sessions. He would meticulously go over every point, frequently examining the agenda item by item," he stated.

The Prime Minister, Modi, would ensure to involve every relevant department, personally engaging with them. He did not offer us the possibility of failure, often asserting 'Our objective is to make India a center for semiconductor production,' stated the minister.
