2024 Ascending India Summit: Indian-manufactured Semicon set to enter the market by December 2024, announces IT Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw

The first ever semiconductor made in India is expected to be launched by December 2024, as announced by Union IT Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw at the News18 Ascending India Summit 2024 today. He also highlighted how this initiative closely aligns with PM Modi’s vision of a developed India.

Numerous chip producers have started operations and invested in India, potentially leading to the debut of the first Indian-made semiconductor chip by December 2024, as stated by Ashwini Vaishnaw, the Union IT Minister of India.

Make a note of this date – December 2024, as this is the time when the market will witness the launch of the first-ever semiconductor manufactured in India.

At the Rising Bharat Summit 2024 organised by News18, Union IT Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw discussed Digital India, India's aspirations for semiconductor production, and the timeline for India to become a global player in designing and manufacturing its own semiconductors.

India's determination and belief in its manufacturing capabilities is evident. The country has previously established various local semiconductor manufacturing facilities. However, for India to have its own semiconductor industry, these facilities need to expand further.

Minister Vaishnaw stated that India's efforts to create a semiconductor industry since 1962 were unsuccessful due to a lack of commitment and conviction. He added that it was PM Modi who instilled the necessary determination and purpose.

Viksit Bharat is fundamentally built upon electronics production, with India Semicon being a central contributor. "Semiconductors are crucial, being integral to everything from your television sets and fridges, to power electronics and telecommunications equipment, and even the electronics in defense technology and cars."

Regarding the present administration's involvement with semiconductors, it is a passion project for PM Modi. The dedication and belief that the Prime Minister possesses for this endeavor is unrivaled. No previous Prime Minister has ever shared this perspective.

The significance of India Semicon to PM Modi's concept of Viksit Bharat was elaborated on by Minister Vaishnaw, who provided some instances of how he carries out his discussions on semiconductors.

Anytime we requested a half to three-quarter hour session with the Prime Minister to talk about semiconductors, he frequently extended those meetings to more than three hours. He would delve into every aspect thoroughly, typically scrutinizing the agenda point by point," he stated.

The Prime Minister, Modi, ensured to involve all relevant departments, meeting and discussing with them personally. He never allowed for failure to be an option, frequently stating, "We must achieve success in transforming India into a hub for semiconductor manufacturing," as shared by the minister.
