2024 Rising Bharat Summit: Indian-produced Semiconductor to be available in markets by December 2024, announces IT Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw

The first semiconductor produced in India will be launched by December 2024, as stated by Union IT Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw at the News18 Rising Bharat Summit 2024 today. He also mentioned how the project aligns closely with PM Modi's concept of a developed India, or Viksit Bharat.

Numerous chip production companies establishing and investing in India will lead to the introduction of the first Indian-made semiconductor chip by December 2024, according to Ashwini Vaishnaw, the Union IT Minister.

Make a note of this date – December 2024. That's when the first semiconductor manufactured in India will hit the market.

At the Rising Bharat Summit 2024 hosted by News18, Union IT Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw discussed the concept of Digital India, India's aspirations in the semiconductor industry, and the timeline for India to establish its presence globally in the design and production of its own semiconductors.

India, as a country, has previously established numerous local semiconductor production facilities. However, they require further expansion for India to develop its own semiconductor industry.

"Since 1962, India has been attempting to build a semiconductor industry, but the efforts were unsuccessful due to a lack of determination and proper conviction," stated Minister Vaishnaw. "It was PM Modi who provided the necessary determination and conviction," he further noted.

The production of electronics forms a fundamental part of Viksit Bharat's base, with India Semicon being at the heart of it. "Whether it's your televisions or fridges, power electronics or telecommunications equipment, defence technology electronics or vehicle electronics, semiconductors are the driving force behind them all."

Regarding the existing administration and its connection with semiconductors, this is a passion project for PM Modi. The dedication and belief that the Prime Minister holds for this endeavor is unmatched. There's never been another Prime Minister with this kind of foresight.

Clarifying the critical role that India Semicon plays in PM Modi's concept of Viksit Bharat, Minister Vaishnaw provided several instances of how he manages his discussions regarding semiconductors.

Whenever we requested a half to three-quarters of an hour meeting with the Prime Minister to talk about semiconductors, he typically stayed in those meetings for more than three hours. He would cover every topic extensively, often meticulously going through every point on the agenda, he shared.

The Prime Minister, Modi, would ensure to include every relevant department, personally interacting with them. He did not allow room for failure, often emphasizing, 'We must achieve the goal of transforming India into a hub for semiconductor manufacturing,' according to the minister.
