Following Xiaomi's initiation into the electric vehicle (EV) industry, Huawei expresses its keenness in exploring the same sector and has begun the production of batteries for its associate producer. Only a short while after Xiaomi introduced its premier EV, Huawei has begun large-scale distribution of its own high-end EV, created in collaboration with Chery Automobile in China. The model, known as Luxeed S7, is priced starting around $34,600.

A senior Huawei executive has confirmed that the Luxeed S7 electric sedan, a joint venture between Huawei Technologies and Chery Automobile, is now being widely delivered to customers. This comes after the project faced delays due to a lack of semiconductors and production difficulties.

Richard Yu Chengdong, the leader of Huawei's smart car solution division, updated the public on Saturday through a Weibo post. He revealed that a considerable batch of Luxeed S7 cars has been produced and is now being shipped to buyers.

Previous reports suggested that Huawei had expected to fix the delivery issues for the high-end electric vehicle by April. The holdups were partially due to manufacturing difficulties associated with a computing unit supplied by Huawei, leading to grievances from Chery.

The S7 sedan is the inaugural model for Chery's Luxeed EV brand and has received around 20,000 orders as of November 28. The starting price is 249,800 yuan, which is roughly equivalent to US$34,600.

Even with the obstacles faced, Huawei's income in 2023 saw its quickest expansion in a four-year span, mostly due to a revival in its consumer division and earnings from budding enterprises like intelligent car parts. These advancements show Huawei's continuous endeavors to steer through US technology penalties.

Moreover, Huawei had earlier declared its intention to separate its smart car division into an independent unit. Yu suggested that this division is predicted to start making profits from April onwards, after experiencing significant losses in the previous year.

Despite initial hurdles, the successful launch of the Luxeed S7 electric car highlights Huawei and Chery's tenacity and resolve in a tough market scenario. Now that bulk deliveries have begun, customers can look forward to getting their orders, representing a considerable landmark in the progress of electric vehicles in the Chinese market.
