Following Xiaomi's lead, Huawei is now keen on entering the electric vehicle market, initiating production of batteries for its partner manufacturer. Just a short time after Xiaomi introduced its first electric vehicle, Huawei has begun the bulk distribution of its high-end electric vehicle. This vehicle, produced in collaboration with Chery Automobile from China, is named the Luxeed S7 and has a starting price around $34,600.

Despite facing obstacles related to semiconductor deficits and production complications, the Luxeed S7 electric sedan – a joint project of Huawei Technologies and Chery Automobile, has at last begun large-scale deliveries to customers, as reported by a high-level Huawei executive.

The chairman of Huawei's smart car solution department, Richard Yu Chengdong, shared an update on Weibo on Saturday. He stated that a considerable batch of Luxeed S7 cars has been produced and is currently on its way to be delivered to the buyers.

Previous reports suggested that Huawei expected to fix the delivery issues for the high-end electric car by April. The hold-ups were partially due to production difficulties associated with a computing unit supplied by Huawei, leading to grievances from Chery.

The Chery's Luxeed EV brand has launched its first model, the S7 sedan, which has already attracted around 20,000 orders by November 28. The starting price for this model is roughly 249,800 yuan (equivalent to about US$34,600).

Even with numerous obstacles, Huawei's income saw its quickest escalation in four years in 2023, primarily due to a revival in its consumer division and profit from budding sectors like smart car parts. This progress showcases Huawei's continuous attempts to maneuver around US technology sanctions.

Additionally, Huawei had earlier revealed intentions to transform its smart car division into an independent unit. Yu pointed out that the division is anticipated to start making profits from April, after enduring significant losses in the previous year.

Despite facing initial hurdles, Huawei and Chery have demonstrated their tenacity and resilience by successfully launching the Luxeed S7 electric sedan in a tough market scenario. Now that mass distribution has started, customers can expect to receive their purchases soon. This is a major step forward in the progress of electric vehicles in China's market.
