Following Xiaomi's lead, Huawei is now keen on entering the electric vehicle market, beginning the production of batteries for its partner producer. Not long after Xiaomi introduced its inaugural electric vehicle, Huawei has now initiated the large-scale distribution of its own high-end electric vehicle. This vehicle, created in collaboration with China's Chery Automobile and named the Luxeed S7, is priced starting around $34,600.

The Luxeed S7 electric sedan, a joint project by Huawei Technologies and Chery Automobile, has begun large scale deliveries to customers. This follows the overcoming of challenges related to semiconductor shortages and production problems, as stated by a high-ranking executive from Huawei.

Richard Yu Chengdong, head of Huawei's smart car solutions department, shared an update in a Weibo post on Saturday. He stated that a substantial quantity of Luxeed S7 cars have been produced and are currently being shipped to clients.

Previous reports suggested that Huawei had expected to solve the delivery issues related to their high-end electric vehicle by April. The hold-ups were partially due to production difficulties linked to a computing unit supplied by Huawei, leading to grievances from Chery.

The S7 sedan is the pioneering model of Chery's Luxeed EV brand and has amassed around 20,000 orders as of November 28. Its cost begins at 249,800 yuan, which is roughly equivalent to US$34,600.

Even with numerous obstacles, Huawei experienced its most rapid revenue increase in four years in 2023. This was primarily due to a revitalization of its consumer sector and profits from burgeoning businesses like smart car parts. These advancements showcase Huawei's continuous endeavors to find a way around US technological sanctions.

Additionally, Huawei had earlier shared its intentions to separate its smart car division into an independent unit. Yu suggested that this division is anticipated to start making profits from April, after suffering significant losses over the previous year.

Despite facing initial hurdles, the successful launch of the Luxeed S7 electric sedan demonstrates the strength and resolve of both Huawei and Chery in a tough market scenario. As mass distribution begins, customers can look forward to getting their purchases, indicating a noteworthy progress in the evolution of electric cars in the Chinese market.
