Russian-supported Sudanese cybercriminals allegedly behind massive cyber onslaught on France

France is currently dealing with major cyber invasions targeting their internet services along with various governmental departments. Even though the French authorities haven't confirmed this yet, a hacker collective known as Anonymous Sudan, suspected of having links with Russia, is taking credit for these cyber invasions.

On Monday, the French authorities declared that they are combating massive cyberattacks targeting their internet and various governmental services. French officials have characterized the magnitude of these assaults as being of an "unprecedented intensity."

In addition, the assaults have compelled the French authorities to initiate a unique crisis center to reinstate internet services, according to a statement from the Associated Press.

The Prime Minister Gabriel Attal's office declared that the assaults began on Sunday evening, impacting several government departments. Nevertheless, explicit information about the affected targets was not revealed.

By the time Monday afternoon rolled around, the effects of the assaults had been lessened for the majority of services, and the ability to use government websites was reinstated.

A hacking collective known as Anonymous Sudan, thought to be connected to Russia by cybersecurity professionals, publicly acknowledged perpetrating the attacks in internet postings. However, there has been no commentary or provision of information about the level of harm caused from either the office of the French Prime Minister or the digital security agency.

A representative from France reported that the assaults were denial-of-service attacks, a prevalent technique in cybercrime that floods a website with data to make it unreachable.

The French administration has been diligently bolstering its digital protection measures ahead of the summer Paris Olympics, in light of prior ransomware assaults, such as those that hit hospitals in 2021.

The discord between Russia and Western countries, further strained by the continuing Ukraine crisis, has escalated to a pivotal stage. Russian leader Vladimir Putin has cautioned about the dangers of an immediate face-off between NATO and Russia. France has charged Russia with carrying out a continuous digital disinformation operation against Ukraine's Western allies, employing strategies like duplicating the French Foreign Ministry's website.

French President Emmanuel Macron has adopted a strong position against Moscow and the conflict started by Putin in Ukraine. In a speech in Paris, Macron underscored the necessity of overcoming Russia in Ukraine for the safety of Europe. He declared the establishment of a group to supply Ukraine with medium- and long-range missiles and explosives, underscoring the critical nature of the situation. Although Macron pointed out that there was no agreement on sending Western forces to Ukraine, he stressed the need to explore all possible solutions.
