India won't tolerate a digital gap, women are more receptive to new technology: PM Modi to Bill Gates

Initiatives such as 'Namo Drone Didi' have played a significant role in altering the perceptions of individuals in rural India, PM Modi conveyed to Bill Gates during a casual discussion. He also shared about his interaction with various African leaders, extending assistance for comparable initiatives.

During a discussion about India's digital evolution with Bill Gates, Prime Minister Narendra Modi pledged not to allow a digital gap to persist in India. He further stated that Indian women, regardless of their socio-economic background, are enthusiastically embracing new technology.

Gates stated that India is introducing technology in such a manner that it becomes accessible to all, particularly benefiting those who require it the most.

PM Modi expressed that upon learning of the global digital gap, he vowed to prevent such a situation from occurring in India.

Having digital public infrastructure is an essential necessity. We aim to provide even the most isolated hamlets with access to crucial technologies, as they are a significant focus group for us," he further stated.

PM Modi went on to discuss the impressive way rural Indian women have adopted technology and are making remarkable strides with it. "Indian women are more receptive to welcoming new technology. When we create technology that caters to their needs, they are swift in their response and acceptance," PM Modi elaborated, citing the 'Namo Drone Didi' initiative as an example.

The initiative 'Namo Drone Didi' was launched with a dual purpose. Firstly, it aimed to uplift three million underprivileged women in India, turning them into 'lakhpati didi', and secondly, to aid them in earning an annual income of Rs 1,00,000," he explained.

He stressed the second aim was to instigate a shift in mindset. "Women in India's countryside shouldn't be confined to tending livestock or milking cows. My goal is to strengthen them by making technology readily accessible and available to them."

"This is progressing remarkably well. I communicate with them currently, and they are overjoyed. They admit that they were unaware of how to cycle, but now, they are drone pilots. There's been a shift in their mindset," PM Modi continued.

I have conversed with numerous individuals from African nations, assuring them that India is prepared to assist them in this area, as such technology provides equal chances to all. The primary goal is to promote equality among everyone.
