Apple's performance in China is deteriorating, with iPhone deliveries in February dropping by roughly one-third compared to the same period last year.

Apple's market performance in China is consistently declining, with a significant drop of approximately one-third in iPhone deliveries compared to the previous year. In January 2024, Apple experienced a significant 39 per cent annual decrease.

Apple's financial stability in China seems to be in a shaky position. The official data from the state, released on Tuesday, suggests a noteworthy drop in iPhone deliveries in China, with a decrease of about one-third from the previous year.

This downturn indicates a tough environment for the US technology powerhouse in the globe's second biggest economy, given the intense rivalry from Chinese smartphone companies.

Apple CEO Tim Cook made a trip to Shanghai the previous week, aiming to enhance the company's relationship with Chinese customers, vendors, and local government officials.

On his trip, Cook was present for the inauguration of a new Apple Store in Shanghai's Jing'an district, which is the biggest in Asia. He also had meetings with delegates from prominent Apple suppliers, such as BYD's chairman and CEO, Wang Chuanfu. Additionally, Cook took part in the China Development Forum in Beijing, where he displayed his fondness for China and its citizens.

Even with a considerable number of Apple enthusiasts in China, the corporation is facing regulatory and competitive challenges. Rumors have circulated about alleged prohibitions on the use of iPhones by Chinese governmental bodies and offices, but the government refutes these assertions.

Based on formal records, overseas companies delivered roughly 2.4 million smartphones in February, representing a 16.9% portion of the market in China. This indicates a considerable decrease compared to the preceding month, with Apple being the most noteworthy foreign participant.

In the first month of the year, Apple dispatched approximately 5.5 million units, indicating a 39% drop compared to the same time the previous year. To combat the fall in deliveries, Apple intends to reveal its much anticipated artificial intelligence (AI) approach at its yearly Worldwide Developers Conference in June. The expectation is that this approach will primarily revolve around significant software upgrades for its intelligent devices, such as the iOS 18 update.

Apple is also considering collaborations with domestic AI companies for the Chinese market, with rumors hinting at Baidu as a possible partner. Nonetheless, no deal has been struck between Apple and Baidu, as per China Daily.

Chinese smartphone manufacturers such as Honor and Xiaomi are progressing in AI technology, displaying their innovations at exhibitions like MWC Barcelona. Apple, demonstrating its dedication to the Chinese market, intends to enhance its research and development activities in Shanghai and set up a fresh R&D laboratory in Shenzhen.

Even with attempted improvements, iPhone purchases in China dropped almost 25% in the initial six weeks of 2024 when contrasted with the equivalent timeframe in the previous year, resulting in Apple being ranked fourth after Vivo, Huawei, and Honor. On the other hand, Huawei Technologies saw a substantial surge in sales, fueled by the high customer demand for its premier 5G Mate 60 Pro smartphone.
