Over 150,000 individuals have been employed directly by the Apple ecosystem in India since August 2021, making it the leading source of blue-collar jobs in the country. Additionally, Apple's operations in India have indirectly led to the creation of approximately 300,000 more jobs.

Apple is emerging as a key player in job creation in India, particularly in the realm of blue-collar employment. With the launch of the Production-Linked Incentive (PLI) program for smartphones in August 2021, Apple's role in India has substantially aided in generating employment opportunities, as reported by The Economic Times.

The study shows that more than 150,000 people have found direct employment in the realm of Apple, establishing the technology behemoth as India's top source of blue-collar jobs. The majority of these workers are young individuals, between 19 to 24 years old, who are entering the job market for the first time.

The report underscores that approximately 300,000 extra jobs have been indirectly created due to Apple's operations in India. At present, the company directly employs close to 3,000 individuals, while its iOS app development aids in supporting more than 1 million jobs in different industries.

Apple's attention towards India, which is the globe's second biggest market for smartphones, is due to political unrest and market difficulties in both the US and China. Apple has bolstered its local manufacturing operations since it started producing iPhones in India in 2017, under the PLI scheme.

The company has enhanced its collaboration with suppliers such as Foxconn, Wistron, and Pegatron to boost the assembly of the newest iPhone models and manufacture diverse components in India. This initiative has resulted in generating more than 77,000 direct employment opportunities within these outsourcing manufacturing companies.

Additionally, Apple's network of suppliers in India has seen fast-paced expansion, leading to the generation of over 70,000 new direct employment opportunities. Several key players in creating these jobs among Apple's suppliers are Tata Electronics, Salcomp Technologies, Foxlink, and Sunwoda.

Furthermore, businesses like Avary Technologies, CCL Industries, and Flex have also contributed substantially to employment generation within the ecosystem.

Apple has recently initiated a women's health education program, in an effort to bolster the growing workforce and encourage diversity. This program is a part of their $50-million Supplier Employee Development Fund. The goal of this initiative is to provide education and empowerment to workers in Apple's supply chain, which will in turn aid in the economic progression and advancement in India.

As Apple continues to invest and grow in India, it is anticipated that the country's position in the worldwide tech scene will become more robust. This is likely to lead to more job opportunities and economic growth.
