Since August 2021, Apple's system has secured jobs for over 150,000 individuals, making it India's leading blue-collar employment provider. Additionally, Apple's operations in India have indirectly created around 300,000 more jobs.

Apple is proving to be pivotal in generating jobs in India, particularly in the blue-collar sector. Following the launch of the production-linked incentive (PLI) program for smartphones in August 2021, Apple's operations in India have notably aided in employment generation, as per a report by The Economic Times.

The study shows that more than 150,000 people have obtained direct employment through the Apple network, positioning the technology behemoth as the top provider of blue-collar jobs in India. A majority of these workers are youthful first-time job hunters, typically aged between 19 and 24.

The report also underscores that approximately 300,000 extra jobs have been indirectly created due to Apple's activities in India. The company presently has close to 3,000 employees on its payroll, while its iOS app development contributes to more than 1 million employment opportunities in different industries.

Apple's increased attention towards India, which is the world's second-biggest market for smartphones, is due to political conflicts and market issues in the US and China. Apple began producing iPhones in India in 2017 through the PLI scheme and has since then broadened its local manufacturing activities.

The company has collaborated intimately with providers like Foxconn, Wistron, and Pegatron, to boost the assembly of the most recent iPhone models and the manufacturing of different elements in India. This has resulted in the generation of more than 77,000 direct employment opportunities within these contracted manufacturing companies.

Additionally, Apple's network of suppliers in India has seen a swift expansion, leading to the generation of more than 70,000 fresh direct employment opportunities. Significant players in job generation among Apple's suppliers are Tata Electronics, Salcomp Technologies, Foxlink, and Sunwoda.

Moreover, firms like Avary Technologies, CCL Industries, and Flex have also made substantial contributions to employment generation within the ecosystem.

Apple has recently introduced a women's health education program in an effort to back the growing workforce and enhance diversity. This move is a part of Apple's $50-million Supplier Employee Development Fund. The goal of this program is to provide education and empowerment to the employees in Apple's supply chain, thereby assisting in the economic progression and evolution of India.

As Apple continues to invest and grow in India, the nation's position in the worldwide tech scene is anticipated to become more robust. This is likely to lead to more job opportunities and economic growth.
