Since August 2021, Apple's network in India has provided jobs to over 150,000 people, making it the leading source of blue-collar employment in the country.

Apple's operations in India have directly hired over 150,000 people since August 2021. Moreover, about 300,000 extra jobs have been indirectly created as a result of Apple's activities in India.

Apple is proving to be essential in generating jobs in India, particularly in the area of blue-collar work. Following the launch of the production-linked incentive (PLI) program for smartphones in August 2021, Apple's operations in India have made a significant impact on employment, as reported by The Economic Times.

The study reveals that more than 150,000 people have secured direct employment within the Apple network, positioning the technology powerhouse as the top provider of blue-collar jobs in India. The majority of these workers are youthful, first-time job hunters, who range in age from 19 to 24.

The report underscores that approximately 300,000 jobs have been indirectly created due to Apple's business activities in India. At present, the company directly employs close to 3,000 individuals, with its iOS app development contributing to over a million jobs in different industries.

The concentration of Apple on India, which ranks as the globe's second biggest market for smartphones, is due to political conflicts and market issues in the United States and China. Since commencing the production of iPhones in India in 2017 under the PLI program, Apple has increased its domestic manufacturing endeavors.

The company has collaborated with suppliers such as Foxconn, Wistron, and Pegatron to ramp up the assembly of the newest iPhone models and production of several parts in India. Such initiatives have resulted in the generation of more than 77,000 immediate employment opportunities within these contract manufacturing entities.

Moreover, Apple's network of suppliers in India has seen swift expansion, leading to the generation of more than 70,000 fresh direct employment opportunities. Significant players in job creation within Apple's supplier base are Tata Electronics, Salcomp Technologies, Foxlink, and Sunwoda.

Furthermore, firms like Avary Technologies, CCL Industries, and Flex have been instrumental in generating employment within the ecosystem.

Apple has recently initiated a women's health education program in an effort to bolster the growing workforce and encourage diversity. This program, which is part of Apple's $50-million Supplier Employee Development Fund, is designed to educate and empower employees in Apple's supply chain. This further aids in the economic advancement and progression of India.

As Apple keeps investing and growing its presence in India, it is anticipated that the nation's position in the worldwide tech scene will solidify. This could lead to increased employment opportunities and economic growth.
