Apple is developing a 20-inch MacBook with a foldable screen, set to begin large-scale production in 2027

Contrary to earlier speculations about Apple aiming to release a foldable iPhone or iPad, it now appears that the tech giant is concentrating on introducing a 20-inch MacBook with a foldable screen. This innovative device is expected to be released in 2027.

Famous Apple expert, Ming-Chi Kuo, has provided insights into Apple's possible intention to launch an innovative 20-inch MacBook with a foldable screen in the upcoming three years.

Kuo, who is recognized for his precise forecasts, shared in a recent X post that Apple's development plans include the production of a 20.3-inch MacBook, which is expected to start mass production in 2027. Nonetheless, exact information about this device is still confidential.

Kuo's revelation matches the whispers from other industry experts, such as display industry analyst Ross Young and Korean site The Elec. They too have suggested the potential of a 20-inch MacBook.

Just to give some background, the biggest laptop that Apple presently offers is the 16-inch MacBook Pro, since they stopped producing the 17-inch MacBook Pro in 2012.

Although Kuo provided an estimate of the screen size, he did not reveal more specific information about the design of the rumored foldable MacBook.

Kuo emphasized the distinctiveness of the 20-inch MacBook in Apple's range of foldable products, suggesting a unique development path. He indicated that foldable models of the iPhone or iPad are not likely to be released in the near future.

Rumors regarding a bendable MacBook isn't a recent development. In 2022, analyst Ross Young from Display Supply Chain Consultants (DSCC) and Mark Gurman from Bloomberg suggested that Apple was investigating the possibility of foldable laptops, notably discussing a gadget with a 20-inch screen.

The mystery deepens as The Information reported earlier this year that Apple has been testing foldable iPhone models since 2018. These models come in two unique designs – one that looks like a standard smartphone and another that is reminiscent of an iPad, but with the ability to fold.

Kuo's latest remarks imply that Apple's current attention on foldable technology is primarily centered on the larger MacBook, possibly signaling that foldable iPhones or iPads may not be on the immediate agenda.

Apple continues to be secretive about its plans for foldable products, but its main rivals, Samsung and Google, have already made substantial progress in this field.

Samsung has released various versions of its flip and book-type folding phones. Meanwhile, Google unveiled the Pixel Fold last year, with speculation about a second version being in the works.
