Apple’s Game Changer: Unveiling the 20-inch Foldable MacBook in 2027

3 min read

Apple is reportedly developing a 20-inch MacBook with a flexible screen and plans to begin large-scale production in 2027. Contrary to earlier speculation that suggested Apple might concentrate on creating a foldable iPhone or iPad, it appears the tech giant is instead prioritizing the creation of a MacBook with a foldable display. The unveiling of this innovative device is slated for 2027.

Famous Apple expert, Ming-Chi Kuo, has provided insights into Apple's possible intention to launch an innovative 20-inch MacBook with a bendable display in the coming three years.

Kuo, who is recognized for his precise forecasts, recently shared on X that Apple's development plan features a 20.3-inch MacBook, which is expected to start mass production in 2027. But detailed information about the gadget is still kept confidential.

Kuo's revelation is consistent with whispers from other sector insiders, such as display industry expert Ross Young and the Korean website The Elec, who have similarly suggested the potential of a 20-inch MacBook.

Just to give some background, the biggest laptop that Apple currently offers is the 16-inch MacBook Pro. They stopped producing the 17-inch MacBook Pro back in 2012.

Kuo held back from revealing more specific information about the design of the alleged foldable MacBook, despite providing an estimated screen size.

Kuo emphasized the exclusivity of the 20-inch MacBook in Apple's array of foldable devices, suggesting a unique developmental path. This indicates that foldable versions of the iPhone or iPad are not expected to be launched anytime soon.

Rumors regarding a potential foldable MacBook have been around for a while. In 2022, Ross Young, an analyst from Display Supply Chain Consultants (DSCC), along with Bloomberg's Mark Gurman, suggested that Apple might be investigating the feasibility of foldable laptops. They particularly referenced a gadget with a 20-inch screen.

Boosting the curiosity, The Information disclosed earlier this year that Apple has been continuously testing prototypes of foldable iPhones since 2018. These prototypes showcase two unique designs: one that looks like a conventional smartphone and another that resembles an iPad, but with the ability to fold.

Kuo's latest remarks imply that Apple is presently concentrating on the development of foldable technology for the MacBook. This could mean that foldable versions of iPhones or iPads might not be in the immediate plans.

Apple continues to be secretive about its plans for foldable products, while its main rivals, Samsung and Google, have already made substantial progress in this area.

Samsung has released several versions of its flip and book-like folding phones. Similarly, Google launched the Pixel Fold last year, and there are speculations about a second-generation device being under development.
