Apple's network has provided jobs for more than 150,000 people in India since August 2021, making it the leading source of blue-collar employment in the country. In addition, Apple's business operations in India have indirectly resulted in the creation of another 300,000 jobs.

Apple is becoming a key player in job creation in India, particularly in the realm of blue-collar work. Ever since the roll-out of the production-linked incentive (PLI) program for smartphones in August 2021, Apple's operations in India have greatly aided in generating employment, as reported by The Economic Times.

The study reveals that more than 150,000 people have found direct employment in Apple's ecosystem, positioning the technology behemoth as the top source of blue-collar jobs in India. The majority of these workers are young adults, aged 19 to 24, who are entering the job market for the first time.

The report underscores that approximately 300,000 extra jobs have been indirectly created due to Apple's activities in India. At present, the company directly employs close to 3,000 individuals, and its iOS app development has aided in supporting more than 1 million jobs in different industries.

Apple's interest in India, which is the second biggest market for smartphones globally, is due to political conflicts and market difficulties in the US and China. Apple began producing iPhones in India in 2017 through the PLI scheme, and has since increased its local production activities.

The company has collaborated with suppliers such as Foxconn, Wistron, and Pegatron to boost the assembly of the newest iPhone versions and manufacture different parts in India. This initiative has resulted in the generation of more than 77,000 direct employment opportunities within these contracted manufacturing companies.

Moreover, the network of Apple suppliers in India has witnessed swift expansion, leading to the generation of more than 70,000 fresh direct employment opportunities. Major entities facilitating job growth among Apple's suppliers comprise Tata Electronics, Salcomp Technologies, Foxlink, and Sunwoda.

Moreover, firms like Avary Technologies, CCL Industries, and Flex have also made substantial contributions to employment generation within the system.

Apple has recently initiated a women's health education program in an effort to aid the growing workforce and encourage diversity. This is a part of their $50-million fund dedicated to supplier employee development. The goal of this project is to inspire and inform workers in Apple's supply chain, which in turn will boost India's economic progress and expansion.

As Apple continues to invest and grow in India, it is anticipated that the country's position in the worldwide tech scene will solidify. This will likely lead to more employment opportunities and boost the economy.
