Since August 2021, the Apple network has provided employment for over 150,000 people, making it India's leading blue-collar job generator. Moreover, Apple's operations in India have indirectly resulted in around 300,000 extra jobs.

Apple is proving pivotal in generating jobs in India, particularly in the blue-collar sector. Since the launch of the Production-Linked Incentive (PLI) program for smartphones in August 2021, Apple's operations in India have substantially added to employment opportunities, as per a report by The Economic Times.

The study suggests that more than 150,000 people have found direct employment in the Apple network, positioning the technology behemoth as the top provider of blue-collar jobs in India. A large portion of these workers are young individuals, aged 19 to 24, entering the job market for the first time.

The report underscores that approximately 300,000 extra jobs have been indirectly created owing to Apple's business activities in India. At present, the company has almost 3,000 direct employees, and its iOS app development contributes to supporting more than 1 million jobs in diverse industries.

Apple has shifted its attention to India, which is the world's second biggest market for smartphones, due to political issues and market difficulties in the US and China. Apple has increased its local production efforts since it began manufacturing iPhones in India in 2017 under the PLI plan.

The company has intensified its collaboration with suppliers such as Foxconn, Wistron, and Pegatron to boost the assembly of the newest iPhone models and the manufacture of different parts in India. These initiatives have resulted in the generation of more than 77,000 direct employment opportunities within these outsourcing manufacturing companies.

Moreover, Apple's network of suppliers in India has seen a significant increase, leading to the generation of more than 70,000 fresh direct employment opportunities. Notable entities facilitating job growth among Apple's suppliers are Tata Electronics, Salcomp Technologies, Foxlink, and Sunwoda.

Moreover, firms like Avary Technologies, CCL Industries, and Flex have also contributed significantly to employment generation within the system.

Apple has recently introduced a women's health education program to back the rapidly growing workforce and encourage diversity. This move is a part of their $50-million Supplier Employee Development Fund. The goal of this initiative is to enlighten and empower employees in Apple's supply chain, which in turn will boost India's economic development and growth.

As Apple consistently invests and grows in India, it is anticipated that the nation's position in the international tech arena will fortify. This is likely to bring about more employment prospects and economic growth.
