Since August 2021, Apple's network has provided jobs for more than 150,000 people in India, making it the country's leading source of blue-collar employment. Additionally, Apple's operations in India have indirectly created approximately 300,000 more jobs.

Apple is proving to be a key player in generating jobs in India, particularly for those in manual labor positions. Ever since the Production-Linked Incentive (PLI) program for smartphones was launched in August 2021, Apple's operations in India have considerably boosted employment opportunities, as reported by The Economic Times.

The study suggests that more than 150,000 people have found direct employment within the Apple network, establishing the technology titan as the top provider of blue-collar jobs in India. A significant number of these workers are young individuals, aged 19 to 24, searching for their first job.

The report also emphasizes that approximately 300,000 extra jobs have been indirectly created due to Apple's activities in India. At present, the company directly employs close to 3,000 individuals, and its iOS app development contributes to over 1 million jobs in diverse industries.

Apple's attention towards India, which is the globe's second-biggest smartphone market, is due to political strains and commercial difficulties in the US and China. Apple has amplified its domestic production activities since it began producing iPhones in India in 2017 as part of the PLI scheme.

The company has been collaborating with suppliers such as Foxconn, Wistron, and Pegatron to ramp up the assembly of the newest iPhone models and manufacture different parts within India. These initiatives have resulted in the generation of more than 77,000 direct employment opportunities within these outsourcing manufacturing companies.

Additionally, Apple's network of suppliers in India has witnessed substantial expansion, leading to the generation of over 70,000 fresh direct employments. Major players in job creation amongst Apple's suppliers are Tata Electronics, Salcomp Technologies, Foxlink, and Sunwoda.

Moreover, firms like Avary Technologies, CCL Industries, and Flex have contributed markedly to employment generation within the ecosystem.

Apple has recently initiated a women's health educational program to back the rapidly expanding workforce and encourage diversity. This is part of its $50-million Supplier Employee Development Fund. The goal of this initiative is to enhance and enlighten employees in Apple's supply chain, thereby boosting India's economic progression and advancement.

As Apple continues to invest and grow in India, it's anticipated that the nation's position in the global tech scene will become more robust. This is likely to create more employment opportunities and contribute to economic growth.
