The current compilation of mobile phones under Rs 50,000 is a bit different from the usual. It's not that we lack phones that offer a balanced blend of functionality, features, and camera quality. It's just that some of these phones, despite being priced below 40K, outperform many other pricier options within this budget. After meticulously evaluating a wide range of contenders, we've curated a list of the top smartphones for you to consider purchasing right now if your budget caps at Rs 50,000.

Top mobiles to purchase below Rs 50,000 in India

The Nothing Phone (2), which is one of the superior phones available for under 50K, is presently being sold for less than 40K. This is precisely the point I was making. The premier version of Nothing's existing flagship phone is on the market at an excellent price. It maintains its distinctive look with a clear back and LED lights. The Glyph lights on the rear do more than just enhance its appearance, offering a host of features and customization options. The Nothing Phone (2) is equipped with a powerful Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 processor, complemented by 12 GB of RAM and 512 GB of internal storage.

The device features a 6.7-inch Full HD+ 10-bit LTPO OLED screen that can reach a maximum brightness of 1600 nits and supports HDR10+. It also has a variable refresh rate that ranges from 1 Hz to 120 Hz. In terms of camera specifications, the Nothing Phone (2) is equipped with a 50MP main camera with optical image stabilization and another 50MP ultra-wide lens with automatic focus. The camera works exceptionally well in all modes, particularly when there's plenty of light. For those who love taking selfies, a 32MP front-facing camera is also included.

The phone's battery has a capacity of 4700 mAh, which ensures it runs for more than a day with average usage. It can handle both 45W speedy corded charging and 15W cordless charging. Despite this, the package doesn't include a charger, which you'll need to buy separately. For quick charging, a solid 45W USB-PD/PPS charger can fill up the battery in less than 60 minutes. The device operates on Android 13 and Nothing OS 2.0, and the manufacturer guarantees software updates for the next four years.

The cost of the Nothing Phone (2) in India is Rs 38,999, which comes with 12GB RAM and 512GB storage.

The iQOO 11 5G is one of the two phones on this list that utilizes the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 chip from Qualcomm's previous flagship. It comes with the option of either 8 GB or 16 GB RAM and a storage capacity of 256 GB UFS 4.0. The phone features a crisp 10-bit 6.78-inch HDR10+ compliant E6 AMOLED screen with a resolution of 3200 x 1440 pixels and a refresh rate of 144 Hz. It boasts protection from Corning Gorilla Glass Victus. The device operates on Android 13 with FunTouch OS 13, and additional updates can be anticipated in the future.

The back camera setup includes a 50MP main camera that uses a Samsung GN5 sensor and OIS, along with an 8MP ultra-wide camera and a 13MP telephoto camera that provides 2X optical zoom and can be used as a portrait camera. The front camera, which has 16MP, effectively manages selfies and video calls. The iQOO 11 5G comes with a 5000 mAh battery, which can last a day and a half with average use. It also comes with a 120W fast charger that can charge the battery to 50% in just 8 minutes and fully charge it in less than 30 minutes.

The cost of iQOO 11 5G in India is Rs 42,999 for the model with 8GB RAM and 256GB storage, and Rs 44,999 for the version featuring 16GB RAM and 256GB storage

The recently introduced OnePlus 12R is another smartphone featuring the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 processor. Although the R series phones may not come with all the advanced features of their more expensive counterparts, they are potent gadgets that incorporate many positive aspects from the brand's top-tier products at a reasonably cheaper cost. The highest model of this phone, with 16 GB RAM and 256 GB UFS 3.1 storage, is readily available within this budget.

The OnePlus 12R boasts a large 6.78-inch curved LTPO4 AMOLED screen with a resolution surpassing Full HD at 2780 x 1264 pixels. The screen, compliant with HDR10+ and Dolby Vision, supports a 10-bit colour depth and a 120 Hz refresh rate, reaching up to 4500 nits of brightness. The screen's durability against scratching is ensured by a Corning Gorilla Glass Victus 2 layer. The phone operates the most recent OxygenOS 14, which is based on Android 14, and OnePlus guarantees several future OS and security updates.

The camera setup is quite akin to that of the OnePlus 11R. The 50MP main camera with Optical Image Stabilization performs exceptionally well under various lighting conditions, including low light. The secondary cameras consist of an 8MP ultrawide lens and a 2MP macro lens. For selfies and video conferencing, there's a 16MP front-facing camera. The battery life has been enhanced by 10% to a capacity of 5500 mAh, providing over a day and a half of average use. The included 100W charger can recharge the battery from zero to full in less than 30 minutes.

The 12R is a solid choice, but the 11R is also worth considering, especially with a price difference of Rs 4,000. Both models have similar designs and camera features, but there are a couple of significant differences. The 11R comes with a slightly older Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 chip, which still packs a punch, and a standard Fluid AMOLED display, however it lacks variable refresh rate and Dolby Vision compliance. If these compromises are acceptable for a saving of 4K, then the 11R might be the right choice for you. Otherwise, the 12R is the better option.

The cost of the OnePlus 12R in India is Rs 46,999, which includes 16GB RAM and 256GB storage. Meanwhile, the OnePlus 11R is priced at Rs 41,999 in India, also with 16GB RAM and 256GB storage.

Just like the OnePlus devices, there's a choice to be made within Google's offerings as well. The Google Pixel 7 and 7a are both within budget, but the 7a offers most of the same features as the 7 for Rs 7,000 less. Both these devices are equipped with Google's former top-tier Tensor G2 processor and boast 8 GB of RAM and 128 GB of internal storage. The Pixel 7 features a larger 6.3-inch screen, while the 7a has a slightly smaller 6.1-inch display. Both screens are OLED with Full HD+ resolution, a 90 Hz refresh rate, and are protected by Corning Gorilla Glass. The devices also have IP68 and IP67 ingress protection ratings, respectively.

Pixel phones are known for providing the most authentic Android 14 experience, complete with the Material You design language and regular system updates. They are also acclaimed for their photography features, and these phones continue that tradition with two rear cameras. The Pixel 7a equips a 64MP main camera with optical image stabilization (OIS) and a 13MP ultra-wide camera, while the Pixel 7 offers a 50MP camera (also with OIS) and a 12MP ultra-wide lens. Both models perform impressively across various light conditions and modes.

The cost of Google Pixel 7a with 8GB RAM and 128GB storage in India is Rs 39,999. Similarly, the Google Pixel 7 model with the same specifications is priced at Rs 46,999 in India.

The Realme GT 2 Pro, another phone that can be purchased for less than 40K, rounds off our list. Despite its reasonable price, it offers impressive features and performance. Its powerful Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 SoC is coupled with 12 GB of RAM and 256 GB of internal storage. The phone's aesthetic is pleasing due to its paper-like biopolymer back. The 6.7-inch QHD+ 10-bit LTPO 2.0 AMOLED screen has an adaptive refresh rate that varies from 1 to 120 Hz and can reach a maximum brightness of 1400 nits. The HDR10+ compliant display is shielded from scratches by a layer of Corning Gorilla Glass Victus.

The back of the device features two 50MP cameras – the main one equipped with OIS and an ultra-wide lens, both of which perform exceptionally well in various settings and light conditions. It also includes a distinct 3MP micro camera that offers 20X to 40X zoom. The 32MP front camera is sure to impress selfie enthusiasts. The phone is powered by a 5000 mAh battery that lasts one and a half days on moderate usage, while the included 65W SuperDart charger can fully recharge it in just 37 minutes. The Realme GT 2 Pro is currently operating on Android 13 with Realme UI 4.0.

The cost of Realme GT 2 Pro in India is Rs 39,990 for the 12GB RAM/256GB storage variant.
