Samsung secures patent for three-part, roll-up phone screens, potentially indicating new foldable models
Samsung appears to be in the process of developing two novel types of foldable phones, according to their most recent patents. Samsung has just received the patent for an innovative three-part display, as well as a compact phone screen that can be rolled up.
The well-known South Korean technology company, Samsung, has reached an important achievement by obtaining patents for its advanced tri-fold and rollable screen technologies from the US Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO). This accomplishment highlights Samsung's ongoing innovation in the field of flexible screen technology.
Samsung's tri-fold display technology, which was presented at CES 2022, has received a patent from the USPTO. This technology differs from traditional foldable phones that use a book-like folding mechanism, like the Galaxy Z Fold 5 or the OnePlus Open. Samsung's patented tri-fold display design introduces a new concept. It includes a display module that has at least one foldable section, which enables the screen to extend across three panels at once. This cutting-edge design provides users with a continuous and wide viewing experience, similar to the Flex S technology that Samsung has showcased before.
Besides the three-fold screen, Samsung has also received a patent for its rollable screen technology. The patent outlines a gadget that contains a rollable screen which can be pulled back into the casing when the gadget is shut and stretched out for usage when opened. The casing is characterized as "flexible" in two conditions — closed and open — making it possible for the screen panels to be effortlessly deployed through the use of hinges.
