Samsung secures patent for three-fold, rollable smartphone screens, anticipating new foldable models
Samsung aims to launch two distinct types of foldable smartphones, according to their most recent patents. Samsung has just received the patent for an innovative three-fold screen, and a compact rollable smartphone screen.
The well-known South Korean technology company, Samsung, has made a major accomplishment by obtaining patents for its advanced tri-fold and rollable display technologies from the US Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO). This success highlights Samsung's ongoing innovation in the field of flexible display technology.
Samsung's three-fold display technology, presented at CES 2022, has received a patent from the USPTO. This is different from the usual foldable phones that open like a book, like the Galaxy Z Fold 5 or the OnePlus Open. Samsung's three-fold display presents a unique concept. The patented design includes a display module with at least one foldable area, enabling the screen to extend over three panels at once. This pioneering setup provides users with a smooth and wide viewing experience, reminding of Samsung's previously showcased Flex S technology.
Samsung has not only secured a patent for its three-fold display but also for its rollable display tech. The patent outlines a gadget containing a rollable screen that can be rolled back into the unit when it's shut and expanded for use when opened. The casing of the gadget is described as being flexible in two conditions – open and shut – which aids the seamless deployment of the display panels via hinges.
These patents highlight Samsung's dedication to advancing display technology. However, the firm hasn't revealed any imminent strategies to incorporate these advancements into consumer products. Samsung may be concentrating on perfecting these technologies to tackle the usual issues of performance and durability related to foldable devices prior to their market launch.
Samsung's ongoing dedication to enhancing flexible display technology solidifies its status as a trailblazer in the field. With the company's continuous development of these revolutionary technologies, customers can look forward to potential future products providing increased adaptability and performance, transforming the face of consumer electronics.
