2024 Rising Bharat Summit: Indian-produced Semiconductor set to launch by Dec 2024, announces IT Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw

The first ever Indian-manufactured semiconductor is expected to launch by December 2024, as announced by Union IT Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw at the 2024 Rising Bharat Summit hosted by News18. He also shared how closely aligned this initiative is with Prime Minister Modi's vision for a developed India (Viksit Bharat).

Numerous semiconductor producers are establishing their businesses and making investments in India. As a result, Indian customers can expect the initial semiconductor chip produced in India to be available by December 2024, according to the Union IT Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw.

Set a reminder for December 2024, as that's when the market will witness the debut of the first semiconductor produced in India.

At the Rising Bharat Summit 2024 hosted by News18, Union IT Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw addressed topics such as Digital India, India's aspirations in the semiconductor industry, and the timeline for India's entry into the global arena for designing and manufacturing its own semiconductors.

India, as a country, has previously established numerous local semiconductor manufacturing facilities. However, these need to expand further to enable India to have its own semiconductor industry.

Minister Vaishnaw stated that India has attempted to create a semiconductor industry since 1962, but these endeavors were unsuccessful due to a lack of determination and proper conviction. He further added that Prime Minister Modi delivered the necessary determination and conviction.

The production of electronics is a fundamental aspect of Viksit Bharat's basis, with India Semicon being the central component. "Whether it's your television or refrigerator, your energy electronics or telecommunication equipment, defense technology electronics or car electronics, semiconductors are the heart of everything."

When it comes to the present administration and its connection to semiconductors, this is a passion project for PM Modi. The level of commitment and belief that the Prime Minister displays for this initiative is unmatched. There has never been another Prime Minister with this kind of foresight.

The significance of India Semicon to Prime Minister Modi's concept of a developed India was elucidated by Minister Vaishnaw. He provided a few instances of his approach to meetings about semiconductors.

"Anytime we requested a half to three-quarter hour meeting with the Prime Minister to talk about semiconductors, he would frequently stay in those meetings for more than 3 hours. He would meticulously explore all aspects, typically examining the agenda point by point," he stated.

"The Prime Minister, Modi, ensured to involve all relevant departments, personally interacting and engaging with them. He did not entertain the possibility of failure. He often reiterated, 'Our goal is to transform India into a hub for semiconductor manufacturing,” the minister conveyed.
