During the Israel-Hamas conflict, Turkish President Erdogan is set to visit the US on May 9, marking his first visit during Biden's administration. It's been reported in Turkish news that Erdogan plans to repeat his call for Israel to cease its assaults in Gaza and advocate for a two-state resolution to the dispute.

For the first time since President Biden took office, Turkey's President Tayyip Erdogan is set to visit the United States on May 9, as reported by a Turkish security official on Friday.

Reuters reports that the head of the Turkish MIT intelligence agency, Ibrahim Kalin, is scheduled to have a meeting with members of the US House of Representatives this Friday. They will talk about Erdogan's upcoming visit as well as other mutual concerns, as stated by an official.

Previously, it was extensively covered by Turkish news sources that Erdogan was set to visit the US, following an invitation from President Joe Biden. The most recent face-to-face interaction between the two leaders took place at a NATO Summit in July, but they have been maintaining regular communication over the phone.

By the way, the relationship between the US and Turkey was previously under pressure due to Sweden's attempt to join NATO, which was initially opposed by Turkey. However, this tension eased when Turkey gave its consent. Furthermore, the meeting becomes even more important considering the recent war between Israel and Hamas and the potential for this conflict to escalate throughout Western Asia.

Reports from Turkish press also indicated that Erdogan was expected to repeat his call for Israel to cease its assaults in Gaza and advocate for a two-state resolution to the conflict.

Erdogan has expressed his criticism of the US for its steadfast backing of Israel in its conflict with Hamas. Earlier this year, in February, the Turkish leader attributed the US as the cause for the unsuccessful peace negotiations in the region, following the war that ignited after Hamas' attack on Israel on October 7th of the previous year.

Another significant matter predicted to grab the focus of the two leaders would be the transaction of F-16s to Turkey, along with a process of updating and modernizing the jets acquired till now.
