OpenAI plans to introduce GPT-5 soon, anticipated to be the most similar to AGI we've observed to date

OpenAI is on track to release several AI offerings this year, potentially inclusive of fresh AI applications. It is also expected to roll out a revised version of its GPT LLM, dubbed GPT-5. Insiders assert that GPT-5 represents our closest approach to AGI so far.

OpenAI is poised to roll out GPT-5, the latest version of its generative AI model. While the exact launch date is yet to be officially announced, it's expected to be released around the middle of the year, possibly during the summer season, as per a Business Insider report.

The upgraded version of the extensive language model is anticipated to outperform the GPT-4 model that was launched the previous year. During a podcast with Lex Fridman, OpenAI's CEO Sam Altman suggested that there might be several launches this year.

He didn't provide specifics or mention a name, as it is still under consideration, but he did confirm that OpenAI plans to launch a remarkable new model this year.

The BI report suggests that GPT-5 is expected to launch sometime during the summer, based on information from sources knowledgeable about OpenAI's strategies. Nonetheless, this schedule is tentative and could change due to different circumstances.

Multiple articles have cited experts in the field suggesting that GPT-5 is the closest we have ever come to achieving Artificial General Intelligence (AGI).

The report further infers that OpenAI has been giving demonstrations of GPT-5 to certain business clients. The improvements in GPT-5 could provide a significantly superior experience in comparison to its earlier versions.

The report indicates that GPT-5 is presently in the training stage, with a focus on training and safety protocols. Once this phase is complete, it will be put through thorough safety checks, incorporating an internal "red teaming" procedure. The purpose of this is to conduct strict assessments to pinpoint and tackle any possible problems prior to its launch to the public.

OpenAI is projected to primarily generate income from corporate sales, which are anticipated to greatly profit from the launch of GPT-5. The improved model is predicted to boost the appeal and benefits offered to business clients.

It remains uncertain how OpenAI will manage the use and availability of training data, much of which is subject to copyright. OpenAI, in conjunction with other technology companies, has been engaging in policy dialogues concerning the use of this data to enhance AI models.
