The humanoid robot powered by OpenAI is touted as 'the most human-like robot ever', set to rival Tesla's Optimus
The humanoid robot, Figure 01, by Figure, has demonstrated new capabilities due to enhancements from OpenAI's LLMs. With these updates, Figure asserts that their Figure 01 robot now represents the most accurate humanoid resemblance to a robot.
The technology startup, Figure, has recently revealed a video that features its humanoid robot, Figure 01. In the clip, the robot is shown interacting with an engineer and performing domestic tasks such as tidying up dishes.
The showcase, which came after Figure's collaboration news with OpenAI, emphasized the robot's capacity for "speech-to-speech reasoning". This left the audience in a dilemma, whether to feel amazed or concerned.
The clip shows Figure 01 pinpointing items on a tabletop, such as a crimson apple, and it gracefully fulfills the human examiner's food request by providing the apple. When asked about its selection, the robot justifies its choice, even incorporating a pause in its dialogue akin to a human's, which results in a somewhat eerie sensation.

Even though Figure hasn't launched a product that's ready for commercial use, their demonstration suggests a potentially unsettling future where dealing with AI-powered robots could create a sense of ambiguity between being helpful and causing discomfort, especially in performing domestic chores such as washing dishes.
Figure's latest collaboration with ChatGPT creator, OpenAI, intends to empower its forthcoming robots with sophisticated language comprehension skills, promoting speedy learning. Earlier videos demonstrated Figure 01's adeptness at handling a coffee maker, walking, and moving items around.
In partnership with OpenAI, Figure is working on creating advanced AI models for humanoid robots that would allow them to understand and interpret language inputs, as stated in a prior press announcement. The recent demonstration indicates considerable progress towards this challenging objective.
In the meantime, rival company Tesla is under close examination following a contentious video that supposedly shows its humanoid robot, Optimus, folding a shirt. This event highlights the challenge Tesla has to overcome in the field of high-tech humanoid robots.
With OpenAI's support, Figure is advancing in the field of humanoid robot creation, constantly pushing the limits. This progress is happening in an ever-changing tech environment that offers both potential benefits and hurdles for the future of AI-powered robotics.
