2024 Rising Bharat Summit: IT Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw announces Indian-made Semiconductor will be available by December 2024

The first-ever Indian-manufactured semiconductor will be launched by December 2024, as announced by Union IT Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw at the 2024 News18 Rising Bharat Summit. He also shared how closely this mission aligns with PM Modi's vision for a developed India.

Numerous chip producers are establishing businesses and making investments in India. The Union IT Minister, Ashwini Vaishnaw, has stated that Indian consumers can expect the first Indian-made semiconductor chip as soon as December 2024.

Set a reminder for December 2024 – that's the anticipated date for the unveiling of the first semiconductor manufactured in India.

At the Rising Bharat Summit 2024 organized by News18, Union IT Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw discussed Digital India and the country's aspirations to produce its own semiconductors. He also deliberated on when India would be ready to take its place in the world's semiconductor design and manufacturing industry.

India's manufacturing sector has shown purpose and determination. Despite having numerous local semiconductor production facilities in the past, there is a need for further expansion to establish a robust semiconductor industry within the country.

"Since 1962, India has been making efforts to create a semiconductor industry. However, our failure was due to the lack of intention and the absence of strong belief," stated Minister Vaishnaw. "PM Modi introduced that strong belief and intention," he further commented.

Manufacturing electronics is a fundamental component of Viksit Bharat, with India Semicon at the heart of it. It plays a crucial role in everything from televisions and refrigerators to power electronics and telecom equipment. Semiconductors are also vital in defense technology and automotive electronics.

The present government's association with semiconductors is primarily a passion project of PM Modi. The level of determination and belief the Prime Minister holds for this initiative is unmatched. No previous Prime Minister has ever had such a concept.

Breaking down the significance of India Semicon in Prime Minister Modi's concept of Developed India, Minister Vaishnaw illustrated with a few instances how he manages his discussions around semiconductors.

Every time we requested a short meeting with the Prime Minister to talk about semiconductors, the sessions would usually last more than 3 hours. He would delve into every aspect thoroughly, typically addressing each item on the agenda one by one," he stated.

"The Prime Minister, Mr. Modi, would involve every relevant department, meeting with them personally and interacting with them. He didn't allow for the possibility of failure – he frequently asserted, 'We must make India a hub for semiconductor manufacturing,' according to the minister."
