During the Israel-Hamas conflict, Turkish President Erdogan plans to visit the US on May 9, marking his first visit during Biden's administration. Reports from Turkish media suggest that Erdogan is expected to repeat his call for Israel to cease hostilities in Gaza and advocate for a two-state resolution to the issue.

For the first time during the end of Biden's term, the Turkish President Tayyip Erdogan is set to visit the United States on May 9, as stated by a Turkish security representative on Friday.

Reuters reports that Ibrahim Kalin, the head of Turkey's MIT intelligence agency, is scheduled to meet with members of the US House of Representatives this Friday. They will talk about Erdogan's upcoming visit and other issues affecting both nations, confirmed an official source.

Previously, it was broadly reported by Turkish news sources that Erdogan was set to visit the US at the request of President Joe Biden. The most recent face-to-face meeting between the two leaders took place last July during a NATO Summit, but they have maintained regular phone communication.

By chance, the relationship between the US and Turkey, which had been strained because of Sweden's attempt to join NATO, initially obstructed by Istanbul, normalized after Turkey gave its approval. Furthermore, the gathering takes on increased importance due to the Israel-Hamas conflict and the potential for this dispute to spread throughout the whole of Western Asia.

Reports from Turkish media also suggested that Erdogan would repeat his call for Israel to cease assaults in Gaza and advocate for the two-state resolution to the issue.

Erdogan, on the other hand, has expressed disapproval of the US for its undying support for Israel in its conflict with Hamas. Earlier this year, in February, the Turkish leader blamed the US for the ongoing unsuccessful peace negotiations in the region, following the war that erupted when Hamas launched an attack on Israel on October 7 of the previous year.

The anticipated main focus for the two leaders could be the transaction involving F-16s to Turkey, as well as the advancement and modernization of the jets obtained to date.
