Neuralink broadcasted a live video featuring Noland Arbaugh, a paraplegic individual who is utilizing Neuralink. In the clip, Arbaugh displays his ability to participate in online chess and the video game Civilization, simply by using his brain, by means of the brain computer interface.

In a pioneering step, Neuralink, the innovative creation of tech tycoon Elon Musk, has unveiled its inaugural human test subject for a transformative brain implant. The 29-year-old volunteer, Noland Arbaugh, who has been quadriplegic for eight years after a diving mishap, demonstrated his regained capabilities during a live broadcast on the social media site X.

Throughout the broadcast, Arbaugh showcased his ability to engage in online chess and the well-liked video game Civilization solely through the use of the Neuralink device.

Neuralink shared a link on their Twitter on March 20, 2024: https://t.co/OMIeGGjYtG

In his moment of victory, he proudly announced, "If you're noticing the cursor moving on the screen, that's all my doing. Pretty impressive, right?"

Neuralink's project is focused on creating a complex brain-computer connection, which would allow paralyzed people to manage digital interfaces by interpreting their brain signals.

This groundbreaking technology represents a substantial leap in narrowing the divide between human understanding and machine engagement.

After receiving the green light from the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) the previous year, Neuralink began its first human trial. This involved recruiting individuals with paralysis to assess the effectiveness of its implant.

The path to this achievement has been veiled in mystery, with Neuralink providing very little information. Data about the trial has mainly emerged from infrequent social media posts and a few company documents.

Even with negative feedback from neuroscientists and ethicists about the unclear details of the test, Musk continues to have a positive outlook on the progress of the project.

"Musk stated on February 19 during a Spaces session on X that the patient's recovery process is showing positive results. As far as we know, there are no adverse effects," when asked about the condition of his Neuralink patients. "The patient has the ability to navigate a mouse on the screen solely through thought."

He pointed out in a recent audio discussion on X that the first participant has shown significant progress, effectively controlling a computer mouse purely through their thoughts.

Despite this, doubts remain about the trial's procedure and management. Neuralink has not yet revealed crucial information like the total participant count, locations of the trial, or precise evaluation goals.

Moreover, the lack of registration on ClinicalTrials.gov, a required platform for openness in human subject medical research, brings up concerns regarding the trial's compliance with regulatory norms.

Neuralink consistently advances neurotechnology limits and maintains a focus on its dedication to openness, ethical considerations, and the possible consequences of its revolutionary progress for people suffering from paralysis.
