Apple counters all allegations made by DOJ in antitrust litigation response
Apple has resolved to strongly contest the antitrust litigation brought by the US Department of Justice. It plans to deny every allegation made by the DoJ in the lawsuit, insisting that it never hindered competitors' applications and services or employed unfair competition strategies within its own operational environment.
Apple has strongly refuted the claims of engaging in anti-competitive practices, which were made in the antitrust lawsuit brought against them by the Department of Justice (DOJ). The tech giant insists that it has never obstructed the applications and services of its competitors or employed unfair strategies within its own network, often dubbed as the "walled garden."
In response to the allegations made by the DOJ, Apple underscored its dedication to the protection of user privacy and security. They clarified that any restrictions on the access to APIs (Application Programming Interfaces) by app developers are thoughtfully enforced for these reasons. Likewise, the limitations placed on third-party digital wallets are defended as measures taken to protect user information.
Regarding worries over dominating the software application market, Apple made it clear that it doesn't hinder the existence of "super apps" on its platforms. They used examples such as Facebook, WeChat, and Line, all of which are accessible to iOS users. The firm also highlighted its receptiveness to gaming streaming services in the App Store.
Apple clarified that the increased interconnection between the Apple Watch and iPhone is due to pragmatic reasons like development intricacies, not because of any intention to eliminate competition.
Addressing accusations of impeding users from transitioning to rival products, Apple underscored the simplicity of moving data from iPhone to Android gadgets. They hinted that customer inclinations, instead of deliberate obstacles, could shape user decisions.
Apple had earlier cautioned that the legal action might set a worrisome standard, giving the government excessive control over technological architecture. The firm continues to stand firm in its promise to robustly resist the accusations.
Conversely, US Attorney General Merrick Garland contended that Apple's strategies hinder possible advancements that might lessen user reliance on the iPhone, consequently suppressing competition and novelty in the market.
