Anticipating Xiaomi: Shoppers intending to purchase the SU7 EV are dealing with a 7-month waitlist

Xiaomi's electric car, the SU7 sedan, was introduced last Thursday, with the starting price as low as $29,870. In the initial 24 hours, the pre-bookings skyrocketed to 88,898, underlining the considerable demand from customers.

It appears that Xiaomi is following Mahindra's strategy of making their customers anticipate their newest product. Xiaomi's new SU7 electric sedan is in high demand, leading to potential buyers waiting up to seven months, according to a Reuters report.

Last Thursday, Xiaomi began accepting orders for its SU7 electric car, which starts at $29,870. The significant consumer interest in this vehicle was evident when pre-orders skyrocketed to 88,898 within the first day.

As per information from Reuters, Xiaomi's vehicle application disclosed expected delivery times for the SU7 models. Both the regular SU7 model and the SU7 Pro model are projected to be delivered in about 18-21 weeks. Meanwhile, the most expensive model, which costs 299,900 yuan, might require around 27-30 weeks for delivery.

In order to boost sales, Xiaomi launched two unique "Founder's Edition" versions of their car, which come with bonus items such as refrigerators. The first 5,000 Founder's Edition cars were instantly snapped up when orders started last Thursday.

Due to the immense request, Lei Jun, Xiaomi's co-founder and CEO, declared on Sunday through Weibo that they would launch a second wave of sales for the Founder's Edition, though he didn't specify the amount. Lei also noted that Xiaomi was able to detect and stop irregular orders and those made by ticket resellers during the purchase process for the Founder's Edition.

Xiaomi's forward-thinking strategy is clear in its decision to set up a factory in Beijing with a capacity to produce 200,000 cars a year, even before getting the green light from authorities to start production in China. In November, the state-controlled carmaker BAIC Group announced its intention to build cars for Xiaomi in the same facility.
