Lenovo Yoga Slim 7i 2024 Evaluation: A top-notch lightweight laptop with impressive power

Despite its small size, the Lenovo Yoga Slim 7i 2024 is an excellent lightweight laptop that does not compromise on performance, thanks to the new range of Core Ultra processors from Intel. In addition, it features a stunning OLED panel, although there is a significant problem.

Advantages: Exceptional OLED screen featuring Dolby Vision – Reliable performance thanks to the Intel Core Ultra 7 155H processor – Robust construction quality – Impressive sound from speakers that support Dolby Atmos – Minimalistic and elegant design – Excellent typing experience.

Downsides- It would have been better with a quicker, 90Hz screen- Missing a fingerprint sensor- Including a card slot would have been a terrific addition.

The cost of the specific model tested is Rs 1,04,999 and it has a rating of 4.5 out of

Recently, Lenovo has been consistently producing successful models, especially in the thin-and-light category, with their newest model, the Yoga Slim 7i, being a great example. Designing such a compact and lightweight ultrabook requires complex engineering. It needs to be highly portable, have a stylish appearance, and must not sacrifice performance.

In this regard, the Lenovo Yoga Slim 7i truly excels. It smoothly managed our daily office work such as video and photo editing, and a great deal of writing without any problems. What sets it apart is that it's among the earliest laptops to be equipped with Intel's newly released Core Ultra processors, specifically the Core Ultra 7 155H.

Lenovo's latest sleek and lightweight laptop offers robust functionality, making it an adaptable option for everyday tasks and even surprisingly proficient for heavy-duty tasks such as video and photo editing. The integration of Intel's new Arc graphics provides decent visuals, allowing you to enjoy light gaming such as Rocket League and Counter-Strike. Without a doubt, this laptop is a standout piece of technology.

Still, there are a few problems, as expected. For instance, it only comes with a 60Hz screen, which hinders the stunning OLED display that it is equipped with. But does these limitations really ruin the experience that the Lenovo Yoga Slim 7i offers? Let's see.

Review for Lenovo Yoga Slim 7i 2024: Structure and Durability. The Yoga Slim 7i perfectly melds aesthetics and practicality. With a weight of a mere 1.4 kg, it's incredibly lightweight and thin, making it a breeze to transport. The sophisticated Luna Grey aluminum casing exudes a luxurious and robust feel, lending the laptop a sense of sophistication.

The Yoga Slim 7i differentiates itself from the typical sleek and lightweight laptops by opting for an understated design with a matte finish, with the exception of the shiny Lenovo logo that adds a dash of sophistication. The matte finish eliminates the problem of fingerprint marks making the laptop appear unclean. However, it's recommended to periodically clean the cover and casing with a soft microfibre cloth.

Additionally, it eliminates the excessively bold RGB lights. Instead, we only observe a hint of light radiating from the keyboard.

Regarding the available ports, on the right-hand side, there are 2 USB Type-C Thunderbolt 4 ports, an HDMI 2.1 port, a USB Type-A 3.2 Gen 1 port, and a 3.5 mm audio combo jack. Even though it provides a diverse selection of both modern and traditional ports, it does lack an SD card slot, which could potentially be useful. Additionally, the power button and camera shut-off switch are also situated on this side.

The laptop is engineered with ample vents for effective cooling and robust hinges for durability. This design facilitates the smooth opening of the laptop's lid using only one hand. Regarding any bezels, they are incredibly thin, almost to the extent that one could say they're practically invisible.

In general, the Yoga Slim 7i comes with a robust construction and high-end design that outperforms its price point, particularly due to the sophisticated glass finish on the Lenovo logo. What stands out about this model, as compared to many other similar lightweight laptops we've tried, is its superior build quality and durability, despite its incredibly thin design.

The review of the Lenovo Yoga Slim 7i 2024 features an impressive 14-inch OLED screen with a glossy finish and a resolution of 1920X1200. Despite being a Full HD Plus screen, the display is outstanding. The OLED panel provides rich colors and extremely dark blacks, resulting in a visually pleasing experience.

Endorsed by Dolby Vision and DisplayHDR, the screen guarantees superior picture and image quality. The visuals are crisp, vibrant, and full of contrast, bringing them almost to life. In addition, it has earned an Eyesafe certification, signifying its lower blue light emission for improved eye comfort. It also comes with TrueBlack 500, TUV Rheinland's Flicker Reduction certification, and TUV Rheinland's Low Blue Light certifications.

The display does an excellent job in color precision, fully encompassing the DCI-P3 color range, which makes it ideal for viewing multimedia content. Even though it falls a bit short of the advertised 400 nits brightness, it still gives an exceptional overall performance.

The single downside is its 60Hz refresh rate, which could seem somewhat insufficient when contrasted with the prevalent 90Hz screens at this price point.

The quality of the screen is so extraordinary that it is fitting for jobs that require precise color precision, such as color-grading images or films. We found it pleasurable to use the screen for the color adjustment of numerous images and videos.

The 14-inch screen provides a remarkable blend of intense colors, adequate brightness, and the signature deep blacks characteristic of all OLED displays. The inclusion of Dolby Vision enhances the viewing experience even more. Viewing high-quality HDR content on this laptop is genuinely a delight.

Review of Lenovo Yoga Slim 7i 2024: Keyboard and TouchpadThe Lenovo Yoga Slim 7i features a top-notch keyboard and touchpad. The keyboard has a user-friendly, conventional design. Its chiclet-type keys are illuminated and provide around 1.5mm of travel, achieving an ideal equilibrium between being overly firm or excessively soft.

This guarantees a steady, comfortable experience for regular typing activities. Summing up, the keyboard offers a tactile sensation, feels good and provides a generally robust experience, which should not be unexpected. Lenovo has genuinely established a standard for non-mechanical laptop keyboards for Windows laptops.

Underneath the keyboard is a reasonably large touchpad devoid of physical buttons. It offers an optimal size, preventing any discomfort from being excessively big, and ensures a seamless navigation experience for users.

The touchpad works wonderfully and provides enough space for smooth navigation. Still, a somewhat bigger trackpad would have been more desirable.

Every tap on the trackpad produces a gratifying click sound, and it seamlessly manages multitouch actions. The precision and tracking performance of the touchpad are of superior quality.

Review of Lenovo Yoga Slim 7i 2024: Webcam and Speakers

The Lenovo Yoga 7i is equipped with an FHD webcam, situated at its top. The quality is satisfactory and it performs its function adequately. However, it isn't outstanding or remarkable. The camera offers the capability to record videos at 1080p resolution. While the video quality from the integrated webcam isn't extraordinary, it accomplishes its purpose effectively.

We appreciate the myriad of AI capabilities that this year's Intel Core Ultra 7 CPUs are introducing to the camera, but we'll delve more into that later. Users who value their privacy will also be glad to know that the camera comes with IR for Windows Hello and an electronic shutter.

The laptop is equipped with a stereo speaker system that provides a robust auditory experience. It features four 2W speakers and an amplifier positioned at the bottom, in addition to speaker vents situated on both sides of the keyboard, offering a genuinely immersive experience. The sound quality, calibrated according to Dolby Atmos' standards, is unexpectedly lush and preserves excellent sound even when played at high volumes.

The combination of the screen and speaker, along with the remarkable work done by Lenovo and Dolby, truly provide an exceptional experience for consuming content.

The review of Lenovo Yoga Slim 7i 2024 focuses on its impressive performance. It is equipped with Intel's latest Core Ultra 7 155H processor and 32GB LPDDR5x RAM operating at 7467 MT/s. It has a top boost clock speed that can reach 4.8Ghz and comes with 24MB of Intel Smart Cache. The device offers a substantial storage capacity with 1TB of M.2 PCIe 4.0-based NVMe SSD.

The Core Ultra 7 155H is equipped with 16 cores and 22 threads. Intel's latest CPU series introduces a novel Low Power Efficient Core, resulting in the Ultra 7 155H having 6 Performance Cores, 8 Efficient Cores, and 2 of these new Low Power Efficient Cores. Additionally, Intel's new processor series includes an NPU within the chip package, specifically designed for local AI tasks. This NPU, named Intel AI Boost, operates at 1.4GHz in the 155H.

Intel's latest NPU can perform a variety of tasks, including improving the laptop's operation by correctly assigning tasks to appropriate resources. However, currently, developers must develop applications and features that utilize Intel's new NPUs, which will be implemented via updates.

The fresh series of processors, particularly the Core Ultra 7 155H, has a lot of impressive capabilities. It offers features like camera tracking or autoframing, along with eye-tracking in a number of compatible web-call applications. Additionally, there's a slight improvement in background blurring in certain applications.

The Lenovo Yoga Slim 7i has been approved by Intel Evo, indicating it adheres to some of Intel's strictest criteria. Laptop makers not only have to comply with specific hardware and specification requirements such as including Thunderbolt 4, WiFi 6E, and numerous security and privacy enhancements, but they also have to maintain certain convenience features, like the ability to wake up from sleep mode in roughly one second.

Lenovo equips its users with the Lenovo Vantage application, which features three unique performance setting profiles: Battery Saver, Intelligent Cooling, and High Performance. As is customary with our benchmarks, we adjust the laptop to maximize performance. In this scenario, that meant selecting the High-Performance mode.

The Yoga Slim 7i delivers outstanding performance across a range of artificial benchmarks, achieving high scores. It handles both less intensive, single-threaded tasks and more challenging, multi-threaded tasks effectively. It also performs well with some GPU applications, courtesy of Intel’s integrated Arc graphics system, which is among the major upgrades Intel has made to its processors this year.

The latest Intel Core processors are now equipped with Intel's Arc GPU, replacing the Iris, which results in a fairly impressive graphics performance. They feature 8 Xe cores, DX 12 ultimate support, hardware-level Ray Tracing, and crucially, hardware-level support for H.264, HEVC, and AV1.

Aside from the notable array of I/O, there are also WiFi 6E and Bluetooth 5.3 features for wireless connections. Even though the Intel Core Ultra 7 can support WiFi 7, Lenovo chose not to include it in the Yoga Slim 7i. Nonetheless, this won't pose a problem, at least not for the next few years.

The cooling system of Lenovo's Yoga 7i efficiently avoids overheating even under extreme thermal situations. Consequently, the laptop seldom experiences any heat-related problems or thermal throttling, even when subjected to demanding and resource-intensive tasks.

Intel's Arc graphics also allow you to enjoy some gaming, though not with overly complex visuals. It manages games such as Rocket League and Counter-Strike fairly effectively.

When you take into account the laptop's sleek and compact design, it's truly remarkable. It stands out in carrying out routine tasks, like streaming content, handling photos, and undertaking simple video editing tasks, provided you maintain realistic expectations.

Review of Lenovo Yoga Slim 7i 2024: Battery LifeThe Yoga Slim 7i is equipped with a 65Wh LiPo 4-cell battery. The battery duration for the Yoga 9i is quite commendable, particularly given its thin and lightweight design, coupled with an impressive OLED screen. OLED screens typically pose a challenge to the battery life of laptops, especially those with high performance.

During a regular workday that included substantial web surfing, writing, photo editing, and some video editing, I could use the Yoga Slim 7i for approximately 8 hours. This was with the screen brightness set to around 60-70 per cent. If we attempted to maximize it, we estimated that we could have extended the battery life by about two hours using Battery Saver mode. However, considering the efficiency of the new Intel Core Ultra processors, it's possible you wouldn't need to resort to that unless absolutely necessary.

Despite the Yoga Slim 7i having a reasonably good battery duration, it also offers a Rapid Charge feature. This enables you to power up your laptop for an extra two hours by simply plugging it in for 15-20 minutes with the supplied 65W charger.

Review Summary of Lenovo Yoga Slim 7i 2024: The Lenovo Yoga Slim 7i emerges as a compelling option for those in need of a laptop that offers robust performance, remarkable battery longevity, and an impressive screen. The newest Intel processors incorporated in this device introduce thrilling enhancements, especially the addition of AI capabilities which could offer additional features when software developers start utilizing the new NPUs.

Despite not having a dedicated GPU, the Yoga Slim 7i can still efficiently process graphic-heavy tasks and support casual gaming, which sets it apart from older Intel laptops. Its appealing aesthetics and wealth of features enhance its attractiveness. Though a quicker display could have enhanced its performance, the overall picture quality is quite commendable.

Overall, for those looking for a sleek and portable laptop, the Lenovo Yoga Slim 7i makes a great option. Its excellent display, impressive speed and enduring battery life make it a comprehensive solution for diverse computing requirements. As of the time of this writing, we wouldn't hesitate to recommend the Yoga Slim 7i if your budget is around Rs 1 lakh.
