OpenAI's Sora has the ability to create convincing nude videos, developers are hastily working on a solution

Sora, the video creating tool from OpenAI, has the potential to generate explicit videos of individuals when instructed, explained Mira Murati, the CTO of OpenAI. The AI firm is presently developing a correction to prevent this issue prior to its release.

OpenAI might be heading towards significant challenges, potentially encountering numerous lawsuits and probes. OpenAI has not dismissed the possibility that its upcoming Sora video generator could produce explicit videos, which could spell trouble for the company.

During a comprehensive discussion with the Wall Street Journal regarding the upcoming tool, OpenAI's CTO Mira Murati hinted that the company is still grappling with the issue of nudity.

"Uncertainty prevails," Murati shared with the WSJ journalists regarding the topic of nudity. "One could presume that in certain innovative environments, artists may desire more authority over it. Currently, we are collaborating with artists and creators from various sectors to determine what's beneficial and what extent of adaptability the tool should offer."

The response was surprisingly open and might have been missed during the notorious YouTube training data incident of the interview. However, some specialists are concerned that if Sora permits "artistic" nudity, it could potentially unleash a metaphorical tidal wave of pornography.

"OpenAI is faced with a difficult choice as, whether we like it or not, it's likely that around 90% of the need for AI-generated video will be for adult content," AI Policy Institute's (AIPI) founder and executive director, Daniel Colson, explained to Quartz. "This sets up an uncomfortable situation where, if mainstream companies producing these models aren't catering to this need, it significantly encourages the black market to step in and provide that service."

Considering the simplicity of manipulating AI models to produce results that bypass their safeguards, it's highly likely that individuals will attempt to coax Sora into creating explicit content. This indeed places the leading AI company in a predicament where they're criticized whether they act or not.

Survey results reveal that individuals are not only worried about AI technology being exploited to create deepfake adult content, like the offensive images of Taylor Swift seen earlier this year, but a significant 86% of respondents also feel that companies responsible for such easily-abused tools need to be held liable for their lax safety measures.

"Colson further emphasized that the public has started acknowledging the significance of this technology. They perceive it as influential. They have observed how technology firms utilize these models, algorithms, and technologies, and witness how these lead to entirely transformative outcomes for society."

The principal issues seem to be grasped by the majority of people, so why not by OpenAI?
