Meta files lawsuit against ex-VP of Indian descent for document theft, alleges him of corporate spying

Meta has filed a lawsuit against its previous Vice President of Infrastructure, Dipinder Singh Khurana, accusing him of illicitly taking confidential and sensitive files before he left the company to join an undisclosed AI cloud computing startup. Khurana had been with Meta for 12 years.

Meta, Facebook's parent company, has begun legal proceedings against its ex-Vice President of Infrastructure, Dipinder Singh Khurana, also known as T S Khurana. The lawsuit accuses him of purloining confidential documents before he went to work at an enigmatic AI cloud computing startup.

According to a Bloomberg report, a legal case was launched on February 29 in a California court, alleging Khurana violated his contract and acted disloyally.

The lawsuit alleges that Khurana, a 12-year veteran at Meta, transferred a plethora of confidential and proprietary documents pertaining to Meta's operations and workforce to his personal Google Drive and Dropbox accounts shortly before leaving the company. These documents are believed to contain information on employee salaries and performance, along with undisclosed business deals.

Meta claims that a minimum of eight workers, who were named in the documents uploaded by Khurana, eventually resigned from the company to work at Khurana's new venture. The lawsuit portrays Khurana's behavior during and after his exit from Meta as a total indifference towards his contractual and legal obligations.

A representative from Meta underscored in an announcement to the media the firm's dedication to preserving its proprietary data. They stressed that Meta views any major infractions gravely and will persist in defending its commercial and staff information.

This legal case is a part of a bigger movement of leading tech firms resorting to court proceedings to safeguard their proprietary information. Previously this month, an engineer from Google was accused for supposedly pilfering hundreds of classified documents loaded with AI business secrets from the firm.

The lawsuit filed by Meta underscores the intense rivalry and significant risks in the tech sector, especially in areas like AI and cloud computing. Considering Meta's CEO Mark Zuckerberg's active participation in this lawsuit, it's anticipated that this case will draw considerable interest as it advances through the judicial process.

The results of this legal conflict could carry substantial implications for both Meta and Khurana's fresh enterprise, underscoring the necessity of protecting intellectual property and adhering to contract terms in the intensely competitive tech industry.
