Meta takes legal action against its ex-VP of Indian descent for document theft, alleging corporate spying

Meta has leveled accusations against its ex-Vice President of Infrastructure, Dipinder Singh Khurana, claiming that he stole classified and sensitive documents before departing to work for a clandestine AI cloud computing startup. Khurana had a tenure of 12 years at Meta.

Meta, Facebook's parent company, has begun a lawsuit against its ex-Vice President of Infrastructure, Dipinder Singh Khurana, who is also known as T S Khurana. He is accused of taking secret documents before he joined a covert AI cloud computing startup.

According to a Bloomberg article, a legal action was initiated against Khurana on February 29 in a Californian state court. The lawsuit alleges that Khurana violated his contractual obligations and acted disloyally.

The lawsuit states that Khurana, who was part of Meta for 12 years, transferred a vast array of classified, confidential, and exclusive files concerning Meta's processes and workforce to his personal Google Drive and Dropbox accounts shortly before leaving the firm. Allegedly, these files contain information on staff salary and productivity, along with undisclosed business contracts.

Meta claims that a minimum of eight workers, who were named in the files uploaded by Khurana, eventually departed the firm to be a part of Khurana's new venture. The legal action portrays Khurana's behavior during his exit from Meta and afterwards as completely ignoring his contractual and legal obligations.

A representative from Meta underscored in a press release the company's dedication to protecting its private data. They stressed that Meta handles any severe violations with gravity and will persist in securing its business and staff information.

The lawsuit is a component of a larger pattern of significant tech firms resorting to litigation to safeguard their intellectual assets. A few weeks ago, an engineer from Google was accused of illicitly taking hundreds of classified documents encompassing AI proprietary information from the corporation.

The lawsuit started by Meta highlights the intense rivalry and considerable risks in the tech sector, especially in areas like AI and cloud computing. Given that Meta's CEO, Mark Zuckerberg, is personally involved in the lawsuit, it's predicted that this case will draw a lot of interest as it moves through the judicial process.

The result of this legal conflict could carry substantial implications for both Meta and Khurana's fresh enterprise, underscoring the need to protect intellectual property and respect contract terms in the intensely competitive tech industry.
