The Lenovo Yoga Slim 7i 2024 is an impressive thin-and-light laptop which, in spite of its small size, packs a punch in terms of performance, due to Intel’s latest series of Core Ultra processors. Moreover, it features an attractive OLED-panel, though it does have a significant problem.

Advantages- Exceptional OLED screen featuring Dolby Vision- Robust performance from the Intel Core Ultra 7 155H processor- High-quality construction- Excellent speaker sound with Dolby Atmos support- Streamlined and subtle design- Superior typing comfort

Downsides – It would have been better with a quicker, 90Hz screen – Doesn't include a fingerprint recognition feature – The addition of a card slot would have improved the design significantly.

The cost of the evaluated model is Rs 1,04,999. It has received a rating of 4.5 out of

Recently, Lenovo has been consistently successful with their range of thin-and-light laptops, with their newest model, the Yoga Slim 7i, being no exception. Creating a thin and light ultrabook presents significant engineering challenges. Such a device needs to be highly portable, visually appealing, and must not sacrifice performance.

The Lenovo Yoga Slim 7i truly excels in this regard. It breezed through our day-to-day office work such as video and photo editing, and extensive writing, without any problems. What sets it apart is that it's among the initial laptops to be equipped with Intel's latest Core Ultra processors, specifically the Core Ultra 7 155H.

Lenovo's latest slim and lightweight laptop offers impressive power, making it an all-around option for everyday tasks and unexpectedly proficient for challenging tasks such as video and photo editing. Its commendable graphics performance is courtesy of Intel's new built-in Arc graphics, which allows you to enjoy less demanding games like Rocket League and Counter-Strike. Without a doubt, this is an outstanding laptop.

Of course, there are a few problems. For instance, the device only comes with a 60Hz display, which doesn't fully utilize the stunning OLED screen it's equipped with. But does such limitations genuinely affect the overall experience that the Lenovo Yoga Slim 7i claims to offer? Let's explore this.

Review of Lenovo Yoga Slim 7i 2024: Structure and Durability

The Yoga Slim 7i artfully blends fashion and practicality. With a weight of only 1.4 kg, it's incredibly lightweight and slender, hence carrying it is hassle-free. The elegant Luna Grey aluminium casing exudes a luxurious feel and robustness, lending a touch of sophistication to the laptop.

Unlike many slim-and-light laptops that tend to be somewhat showy, the Yoga Slim 7i chooses a more understated style with a matte finish, apart from the shiny Lenovo logo that lends a bit of sophistication. The matte finish ensures that fingerprint smudges don't make the laptop appear unclean, however, we suggest occasionally wiping the cover and the body with a soft microfiber cloth.

Additionally, it also eliminates those excessively forceful-looking RGB lights. Instead, we only observe a hint of light coming from the keyboard.

Regarding the ports, on the right hand side, there are 2 USB Type-C Thunderbolt 4 ports, an HDMI 2.1 port, a USB Type-A 3.2 Gen 1 port, and a 3.5 mm audio combo jack. It provides a decent variety of both contemporary and traditional ports, but it lacks an SD card slot, which might have been useful. The power button and a toggle switch for the camera can also be found here.

The laptop is structured to facilitate effective heat dissipation through sizable vents and robust hinges. This feature makes it possible to effortlessly open the laptop's lid using only one hand. Regarding the bezels, they are incredibly thin, almost to the extent that one could consider them practically invisible.

In general, the Yoga Slim 7i provides a robust construction and a high-end design that outperforms its price bracket, particularly due to the sophisticated glass finish on the Lenovo logo. We also appreciate that, in comparison to other slim and lightweight models we've evaluated, this one appeared to be the most durable and well-constructed, while still retaining a genuinely sleek form.

Review of Lenovo Yoga Slim 7i 2024: Screen

The test model of Lenovo presents a breathtaking 14-inch OLED screen, which impresses with a resolution of 1920X1200 and a shiny surface. The screen is genuinely noteworthy, even for a Full HD Plus monitor. It delivers a visually captivating experience with its bright colors and exceptionally dark blacks that are characteristic of OLED displays.

Endorsed by Dolby Vision and DisplayHDR, the screen guarantees premium picture and image quality. The visuals are crisp, striking, vibrant and almost lifelike. In addition, it has earned an Eyesafe endorsement, signifying a decrease in blue light output for improved eye ease. It also offers TrueBlack 500, TUV Rheinland's Flicker Reduction endorsement, and TUV Rheinland's Low Blue Light credentials.

When it comes to color precision, the screen excels as it encompasses the entirety of the DCI-P3 color range, making it ideal for multimedia consumption. Even though it falls a bit short of the expected 400 nits brightness, its overall performance remains impressive.

The sole disadvantage is its 60Hz refresh rate, which may seem slightly inadequate when compared to the prevalent 90Hz screens in this price bracket.

The quality of the display is outstanding, making it ideal for activities that require precise color accuracy, such as color grading images or videos. We found it highly satisfactory to use the display for adjusting the color in numerous photos and videos.

This 14-inch screen provides a remarkable blend of vibrant colors, adequate brightness, and the characteristic intense blacks common to all OLED displays. Its compatibility with Dolby Vision further enhances the viewing experience. Viewing high-quality HDR content on this laptop is genuinely delightful.

Review of Lenovo Yoga Slim 7i 2024: Evaluation of the Keyboard and Touchpad

The Lenovo Yoga Slim 7i comes equipped with a first-rate keyboard and touchpad. The keyboard features a standard, intuitive layout that makes typing easy. The keys are styled in a chiclet design, come with a backlight, and allow for about 1.5mm of key travel, achieving a great equilibrium between being overly stiff or excessively soft.

This guarantees a uniformly pleasant typing experience for daily tasks. Simply put, using this keyboard is tactile, enjoyable, and generally a robust experience, which should not be unexpected. Lenovo has indeed established a standard for Windows laptops in terms of non-mechanical laptop keyboards.

Underneath the keyboard, there's a reasonably large touchpad with no physical buttons. It's well proportioned in relation to size, preventing any discomfort from being too big, and offers an effortless browsing experience for users.

The touchpad is impressive and its size is sufficient for smooth navigation. Still, a somewhat bigger trackpad would have been preferable.

While utilizing the trackpad, every tap on its surface produces a gratifying click, and it smoothly manages multitouch movements. The precision and monitoring skills of the touchpad are unrivaled.

Review of the Lenovo Yoga Slim 7i 2024: Examination of Webcam and SpeakersThe Lenovo Yoga 7i comes equipped with a Full HD webcam located at the top, providing satisfactory functionality. Although it's adequately calibrated, it's not particularly impressive. The camera enables users to record videos in 1080p. Even though the output from the inbuilt webcam isn't outstanding, it fulfills its purpose efficiently.

We appreciate the plethora of AI capabilities that Intel's Core Ultra 7 CPUs are introducing this year, which we will discuss in greater detail later. Additionally, individuals who value privacy will be pleased to know that this camera includes IR for Windows Hello and an electronic shutter.

The laptop features a stereo speaker system that provides a robust audio experience. It is equipped with four 2W speakers and an amplifier situated at the base, in addition to speaker vents on both sides of the keyboard, which altogether create an enveloping sound experience. Calibrated according to Dolby Atmos' standards, the sound quality is unexpectedly lush and consistently high-quality even at increased volume levels.

The combination of the screen and speaker, along with whatever enhancements Lenovo and Dolby have implemented, genuinely create a superior experience for media consumption.

The Lenovo Yoga Slim 7i 2024 has some impressive features. It's equipped with Intel's latest Core Ultra 7 155H processor and comes with 32GB LPDDR5x RAM 32GB that operates at 7467 MT/s. It can achieve a maximum boost clock of 4.8Ghz, and has 24MB of Intel Smart Cache. In terms of storage, it boasts 1TB of M.2 PCIe 4.0-based NVMe SSD.

The Core Ultra 7 155H is equipped with 16 cores and 22 threads. Intel's recent range of CPUs introduces a new Low Power Efficient Core, giving the Ultra 7 155H a configuration of 6 Performance Cores, 8 Efficient Cores, and 2 fresh Low Power Efficient Cores. In addition, Intel's latest processors come with an NPU incorporated into the chip package, specifically for handling local AI operations. This NPU, known as Intel AI Boost, operates at 1.4GHz in the 155H.

Intel's latest NPU can potentially perform a wide variety of tasks, including improving laptop performance by allocating tasks to the appropriate resources. However, for now, it requires developers to devise apps and features that will utilize these new NPUs from Intel, which will only be implemented through updates.

The latest series of processors, particularly the Core Ultra 7 155H, are equipped with several impressive functionalities. They offer capabilities like camera tracking or autoframing, and eye-tracking in a range of compatible web communication applications. There's also a slight improvement in background blurring in these supported applications.

The Lenovo Yoga Slim 7i has received Intel Evo certification, indicating that it complies with some of Intel's toughest requirements. Laptop makers must not only satisfy specific hardware and specification criteria, such as incorporating Thunderbolt 4, WiFi 6E, and a wealth of security and privacy functions, but they must also follow certain user-friendly features, like being able to wake up from sleep mode in approximately a second.

Lenovo equips its users with the Lenovo Vantage application, which comes with three unique performance configuration profiles: Battery Saver, Intelligent Cooling, and High Performance. As is standard for our benchmark tests, we adjusted the laptop to maximize performance, which in this instance, implied switching it to High-Performance mode.

The Yoga Slim 7i shows outstanding performance in different artificial benchmarks, achieving quite commendable scores. It handles both light, single-threaded tasks and heavier, multi-threaded tasks with efficiency. Additionally, it performs decently in certain GPU applications, due to the inclusion of Intel's in-built Arc graphics package, which is among the major modifications Intel has incorporated in its processors this year.

The latest Intel Core processors are equipped with Intel’s Arc GPU, replacing the previous Iris, resulting in fairly good graphic capabilities. Features include 8 Xe cores, DX 12 ultimate support, inbuilt Ray Tracing, and crucially, inbuilt support for H.264, HEVC and AV1.

In addition to the remarkable range of input/output features, WiFi 6E and Bluetooth 5.3 are also provided for wireless connections. While the Intel Core Ultra 7 is compatible with WiFi 7, Lenovo chose not to include this in the Yoga Slim 7i. Nonetheless, this shouldn't pose a problem, at least not for the next few years.

Lenovo's cooling system for the Yoga 7i efficiently stops overheating even under extreme temperature conditions. Therefore, the laptop infrequently exhibits any heat-related problems or thermal throttling, even when subjected to intense, resource-demanding tasks.

With Intel's Arc graphics, you also have the opportunity to game, although it might struggle with more graphically demanding games. It can smoothly run games such as Rocket League and Counter-Strike.

The laptop's thin and light form factor is quite astonishing given its performance. It shines in routine tasks like media streaming, photo management, and some light video editing tasks, provided you maintain reasonable expectations.

Review of Lenovo Yoga Slim 7i 2024: Battery Life

The Yoga Slim 7i has a 65Wh LiPo 4-cell battery. The battery duration of the Yoga 9i is quite commendable, particularly given its compact and lightweight design, which includes an impressive OLED Display. Typically, OLED displays pose a significant challenge to laptop battery life, especially for high-performance models.

During an average workday, which included extensive internet use, writing, and editing photos and videos, I found that the Yoga Slim 7i lasted approximately eight hours. This was with the screen brightness adjusted to around 60-70 percent. We believe that by utilizing the Battery Saver mode, we could have potentially squeezed out an additional two hours of battery life. However, with the highly efficient new Intel Core Ultra processors, it's unlikely you'd need to resort to this unless absolutely necessary.

Despite the Yoga Slim 7i having a strong battery duration, it also includes a Rapid Charge feature. This feature enables you to power your laptop for an extra two hours by charging it for 15-20 minutes with the provided 65W charger.

Review Summary of Lenovo Yoga Slim 7i 2024: The Lenovo Yoga Slim 7i stands as a powerful option for individuals looking for a laptop that delivers robust performance, impressive battery longevity, and a remarkable display. The newly released Intel processors provide thrilling improvements, especially with the integration of AI capabilities that will offer additional features once developers leverage the new NPUs.

Despite not having a specific GPU, the Yoga Slim 7i effectively deals with tasks that require high graphics and even light gaming, setting it apart from prior Intel laptops. Its attractive design and abundant features enhance its allure. While it could've benefited from a quicker screen, the overall picture quality is commendable.

Overall, the Lenovo Yoga Slim 7i is a good pick for those looking for a sleek, lightweight laptop. Its superior display, excellent performance, and durable battery life make it a comprehensive answer for numerous computing requirements. As of the time of writing this, we wouldn't hesitate to suggest the Yoga Slim 7i if your budget is roughly Rs 1 lakh.
