Apple asserts their in-device AI model is superior and more functional than OpenAI's GPT 4

Apple has experienced certain challenges when trying to blend AI with its voice assistant, Siri, according to preliminary reports. However, when compared to OpenAI’s ChatGPT 3.5 and ChatGPT 4.0, Apple's in-device AI demonstrates encouraging outcomes, frequently surpassing them.

Apple is encountering difficulties in incorporating AI into its voice assistant, Siri. Lately, Siri has been testing the ability to describe pictures sent in Messages when used with CarPlay or the announcement notifications feature, as stated by 9to5Mac.

Despite everything, Apple continues to dedicate itself to the progression of AI. In a recently released academic document, the AI specialists at Apple discuss a system that surpasses just recognizing images. Intriguingly, they assert that one of their models excels over ChatGPT 4.0, a prominent large language model.

The article presents ReALM (Reference Resolution As Language Modeling), a system developed to improve the functionality of a voice assistant. ReALM takes into account both the information displayed on the user's screen and the tasks being performed.

This classifies things into three categories: those visible on-screen, those involved in conversation, and those in the background.

Apple is of the opinion that ReALM has the potential to greatly enhance Siri's smartness and utility. Moreover, Apple has faith in the system's swiftness and user-friendliness. When compared to OpenAI's ChatGPT 3.5 and 4.0, Apple's in-device AI demonstrates encouraging outcomes.

The document shows significant enhancements compared to current systems, with Apple's most compact model reaching a performance level similar to ChatGPT 4.0. Moreover, the bigger models exceed the performance of ChatGPT 4.0 by a considerable amount.

Apple strives to deliver high performance on their devices without compromising on quality. This strategy is consistent with their dedication to ensuring user privacy and security. The forthcoming iOS 18 and WWDC 2024 event, scheduled for June 10, might reveal additional progress in Apple's AI technology.
