Apple is developing a 20-inch MacBook featuring a foldable screen, set to begin mass-production in 2027

It seems that Apple is directing their attention to the release of a foldable 20-inch MacBook, contrary to earlier speculations of an iPhone or iPad. The first of Apple's gadgets with a foldable screen could be revealed in 2027.

Famous Apple expert Ming-Chi Kuo has provided insights into Apple's possible intentions to launch a revolutionary 20-inch MacBook with a folding screen in the upcoming three years.

Kuo, who is recognized for his precise forecasts, recently disclosed on X that Apple's future plans involve the production of a 20.3-inch MacBook, which is expected to start mass manufacturing in 2027. Nevertheless, exact information regarding the gadget is still kept secret.

Kuo's revelation is consistent with whispers from other industry professionals, such as display industry expert Ross Young and Korean site The Elec, who have likewise suggested the potential of a 20-inch MacBook.

Just to give some background, the biggest laptop that Apple currently offers is the 16-inch MacBook Pro. They stopped producing the 17-inch MacBook Pro back in 2012.

Although Kuo provided a rough estimation of the screen size, he chose not to reveal more specific details about the design of the rumored foldable MacBook.

Kuo emphasized the distinctiveness of the 20-inch MacBook in Apple's portfolio of foldable products, suggesting a unique development path. This implies that foldable versions of the iPhone or iPad are not expected to be released in the near future.

Rumors regarding a foldable MacBook are not recent. In 2022, Ross Young, an analyst at Display Supply Chain Consultants (DSCC), and Mark Gurman from Bloomberg suggested that Apple might be investigating the possibility of foldable laptops, particularly referring to a gadget with a 20-inch screen.

Further piquing interest, The Information earlier this year revealed that Apple has been testing prototypes of foldable iPhones since 2018. These prototypes come in two unique designs – one akin to a conventional smartphone, and the other resembling an iPad but with the ability to fold.

Kuo's latest comments imply that Apple is presently concentrating on integrating foldable technology into their larger MacBook range. This could possibly mean that foldable versions of iPhones or iPads might not be on the immediate agenda.

Apple continues to be secretive about its plans for foldable products, whereas its main rivals, Samsung and Google, have already made considerable progress in this area.

Samsung has released several versions of its flip and book-like folding phones, while Google debuted the Pixel Fold last year, amid speculations of a second-generation device being in the works.
